Is atheism foolish?

In actuality, I made no claim that humans completely understand QM, only that we fathom it. In other words: we know quantum particles exist, the math that supports QM is coherent and elegant, QM explains many observations that were unexplainable with Newtonian physics, QM is often more accurate than Newtonian mechanics. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Feynman I learned yesterday that the Schrodinger equation does not predict the configuration of isomers, molecules with the same number and type of atoms but with different configurations. If a molecule is chiral we only ever see a left-handed version or a right-handed version, never a superposition of the two. In other words, we can't reduce chemistry to physics. There is no fact about something as basic as molecular structure when a group of atoms are allowed to interact in isolation. They never say what they mean or mean what they say. In the same way theism, or more specifically theology is obtuse. Theism and atheism are ideologies. The science of ideas. Science is often wrong. Atheism and theism themselves aren't sentient entities. They aren't foolish, their adherents can be, often are, myopic. Atheism is a rational conclusion. Theism requires faith. Atheism should involve faith and theism should involve the rational. So neither atheism or theism are foolish conclusions, their just different. |
