Red Baron, if it makes you feel better I am raising my biological son without religion, and my step-daughter was abandoned by her religious biological father, so I am raising her non-religious. My parents raised me religious and I dealt with some of the same crap you are going through...the next generation will not have to deal with it.

Your mom is a power crazed asshole. There is no dealing with people like that. However, you have lived with her a long time so I suspect that you already know this.

I have no idea WHY parents find that as soon as their offspring get to 18 (adult here in Oz) they become all threatened and pull the "Do as I say, or get out card"

I would suggest you look around for accommodation suitable to you needs and income, (as has been suggested), chill here for a while and finally DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACTS that have been drawn up by your parents on the grounds that they are neither legal nor binding. Substitute going to church for extra study time. Also ... are you paying any "rent" (in the way of chores, odd jobs)??

Hello I'm Red Baron I've been an Atheist for 4 years.
(Everyone says: Hi Red we are Atheist too.) lol get it AA.
Anyway after waiting for a long time for "god" to hold up his end of the bargain to show me he is real i decided religion was a bunch of crap. And it went on from there. I feel more relieved and happy but on the down side my parents....

I am not an atheist, but I welcome you anyways.

They usually say "its just 45 minutes," "quit being a big baby," "we don't want to go to hell for not making you go to church."
One day I rebelled and my dad started yelling at me like crazy and I yelled back. Ended up making him cry so he was down then mom stepped in.
(I wanted to stay home so I could do something productive like finish making these Final Cut videos and becuase i finished those videos my client gave me $200.)
I threaten them I would leave or hang myself becuase I'm tired of their bull.
So they went to church and i stayed home and worked.
btw I'm 18.
They came back home and said "Leave or go to church"
I stayed becuase where else would I go?

If you are 18, then what are you still doing at home? You can go anywhere. Hard? Sure. You're going to have to go somewhere after you graduate high school anyway (and if you have already.... then...?).

I needed some help and comfort of communicating with people who share similar beliefs.
I googled and found this place.

I can provide comfort when I'm not being fatalistic or realistic (they are not always the same)... and how much I can help depends on how much my help is worth to you...
