Forty-four is old. Do not argue with the birthday boy.

When I was growing up, I knew that I wanted to be a writer. As a teenager, I began conceptualizing and writing my first novel. It never quite came to fruition, not as I had originally imagined it. One day I might try to get that particular novel written.

But I am a writer, probably more from self identity than the art or literature world would ever take into consideration. And this is okay. I am proud of the characters I have created and the novels I have written. I do not adhere to the same formula that places books on the shelves to be sold, and that will never be me. I have always pushed the boundaries of everything around me, but especially in how I construct and write a novel.

I have come a long way from the trailer trash bumpkin who sought solace in books and writing, yet I know a part of me can never truly leave that place. Looking back upon the journey that has led me here allows me to have hope for what tomorrow may bring.
