On the thread about indoctrination the other day, you pointed out that for some people, being hateful is a way to mitigate their own pain. 

I think this is very true. We see it all the time. 

I don't know about the guy at your job, of course, but the habit of puffing oneself up by treating others badly is extremely common. It's possible you were just useful as a way for him to do that.

Yeah but see, here's the thing, I might be a complete and total great whirling arsefardle, I'm not saying I'm not. But I didn't act like I was one, at my job. So this dude had no reason to treat me poorly.
