Spaceballs Sequel!

Incredibly, 98-year-old Mel Brooks announced he is making a sequel to Spaceballs. He is even to reprise his roll of Yogurt the Schwartz master. I hope they manage to film this while he is still alive!

I guess even the redoubtable Mel Brooks is capable of a bad idea.

He had been talking about a Spaceballs sequel for at least 2 decades. One condition though was that he would only do it if Rick Moranis would return as Dark Helmet. Moranis left acting in the 90s after the death of his wife to focus on raising his kids. I guess his kids are grown now and he's good with returning. I just have a hard time imaging a 72-year-old Dark Helmet.

So, Mel’s had a bad idea that’s been cooking for a long time. I don’t see how that makes a difference.
With few (VERY FEW) exceptions, sequels suck.

While this may or may not be true, sequels tend to be superior to the various reboot/retread/cash grab films of the recent past.

That’s a fair point. I mean ‘No Country For Old Men’ was a complete stinker compared to ‘Ernest Goes To Camp’.

Movies, TV shows, songs ... most are completely shit nowadays, at least the mainstream stuff ... not that this is new. But now they seem content to recycle shit.

I will definitely watch the sequel, if and when it's produced. I'll miss John Candy as the dog man, however.
