in july, it finished its 9th year and racked up 677K visitors, making it its 7th highest since opening.
Original estimates were 1.4M its first year and a modest 4% increase every year, but in reality it never even hit a million, and its 677K number isnt even 1/3 of what their original estimates were for this time.And dont forget an all wooden structure doesnt age well take it from a lifelong woodworker the maintenance costs in the future are going to be astronomical.

As a 'lifelong woodworker', I'm sure you're aware that there are plenty of ways to protect wood from the elements. I don't see the maintenance costs being particularly higher than those for any other large wooden building.

I'd completely forgotten about this place. I'm frankly surprised to hear it's holding on at all. 

Back when the New Atheists were enjoying fighting about this stuff on line Ken Ham was one of the main boogeymen. He had to be debated and his ideas squashed. Now it seems like he barely has any on-line presence at all.

Where you live is he still getting attention? Probably in Christian creationist circles people listen to him, but that kind of person barely registers any more. 

I suppose we've all moved on and get worked up about different boogeymen these days.

According to Ken Ham, who you appreciate much more than Richard Dawkins, atheists have never stopped persecuting him and his fantasy boat.

Atheists Protest 10-Year Anniversary of the Ark Encounter

On Sunday morning, after our anniversary, a group of about 40 atheists gathered outside the Ark Encounter to protest—why, after 10 years, do they continue to protest us?

It’s not really because they’re upset about us building a life-size Ark. After all, you don’t see them standing outside of Disney and protesting that attraction! I’m sure if we’d built the Ark just as an attraction that didn’t share the truth of God’s Word or the gospel, they’d have no more of a problem with the Ark Encounter than they do with Disney. And it’s not because of the supposed tax dollars they claim were used to build the Ark. No tax dollars were used to build the Ark, and yet, these atheists continue to lie about the tourism tax incentive. They continue to protest because they are in rebellion against God, so they hate the message of the Ark. And to them, the end justifies the means—so they will say whatever they want regardless of it being false.

At the Ark, we boldly proclaim the truth of God’s Word and the gospel of Jesus Christ, including the need for everyone to repent of their sin and trust in Christ for salvation. That’s really what they’re objecting to because they are suppressing the truth in unrighteousness, just as the Bible says (Romans 1:18).
