XBox 360

RE: XBox 360
Im trying ever so hard not to sound overly negative about this but gold just sounds like a con. In my opinion £40 is about £35 more than I'd be willing to spend annually on that feature set.

Yeah, £40 a year is way too expensive to pay for a service that lets you play against thousands of people all over the world, improving your skills in said game and letting you form numerous friendships and clans.

Sorry, had to be said. Trust me, it's well worth it. It's just over £3 a month and it lets you play multiplayer games that you might not be able to play otherwise (especially since the more controllers you have, the less space on the screen you have).

That is a true statement that doesn't warrent a sarcasm tag. Don't get me wrong, those are all nice things but everything else I've ever played online does this for free. This includes mmorpgs. They might charge you to play the game in the first place, but a talking to other people tax? That's just potty. So if I do want to play a game against thousands of other people all over the world, improving my skills in said game and letting me firm numerous friendships and clans,I shall do so on a platform without the cheak to demand I pay for the pleasure.
Not to mention I don't use the bloody thing often enough to warrent such a hefty subscription. Had the damn thing for two years and in that time I must have played it for no more than 5 hours. It might make more sense If they offered a pay as you go option. At least then I wouldn't be wasting my money whilst I'm at uni not using it.

The sarcasm was for the "way too expensive" bit. If you want a pay-as-you go option why not just get your hands on a load of month trials? I also reject your "talking to other people tax" remark. Firstly, you can talk to other people with a silver account, and secondly, playing against other people online is a heck of a lot more than just "talking". Microsoft are providing a service which costs them a great deal (they have to run the servers etc), and like you said, MMRPGs get your to pay a monthly subscription usually, so compared to that it is nothing.

Because I've got it for free elsewhere? :a
Besides with a month account I'm still paying for quite a lot of unused time

Incidentally it's become hell trying to follow this on my iPod :<

I have an XBox 360 but I don't use it for online gaming just local gaming, video streaming and DVD play. It's actually very quiet and works brilliantly for what I want it to do.

TBH I don't really get the attraction for playing massive numbers of strangers, I'm still back there with the Doom/Heretic philosophy i.e. playing a bunch of your mates so you can have fun, get pissed (sometimes) and taunt them.

I had XBox Live for the 1st month but never did anything with it so now I'm back n Silver.

RE: XBox 360
I much prefer online gaming.

But Heretic is one of my favourite games ever (the original I never played the second one).

Jesus Christ monkey-balls heretic was(/is) a good game!

I really like doom - but I'm so much more heretic. I just love the artwork, the sounds, the music - and the level design! Also the monsters.

I agree with a lot of people that the doom weapons were awesome. But I prefer some of the heretic ones!

I f**king love the double explosive green crossbow! It f*cking rocks!

And I think I prefer Hexen even more. The hubs were f*cking genius and it was so atmospheric and moody. For me at least, it is even today. The level design is awesome.

And Kevin Schilder who did music for both Hexen and Heretic - made brilliant soundtracks to those games!!

I think the xbox live thing is well worth it. My brother uses it for his Xbox.

Depends if you like online gaming enough - and like the games and online gaming system and servers and other options enough and think its worth the money!

My absolute favourite single player games are on par in enjoyment with my absolute LEAST favourite multiplayer games.

I think multiplayer is just awesome!! Well well worth it.

Of course a really really good multiplayer game is WAY WAY WAY better than a terrible one.

But still - multiplayer!

And I'm talking about online of course!

Although like LAN is still awesome of course.

Just buck up the cash for Xbox Live- it's a great service, and very reasonably priced. Then, get yourself Call of Duty 4, and call in to warn work you won't be in for a while.

I agree ... I even considered paying for it on the off-chance I might like to play some kind of online game or that my daughter's might want to (not sure if Gold is bought per machine or per player).

RE: XBox 360
I'm a big fan of the Xbox360 and Xbox Live. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I find the yearly rate to be very reasonable.

I would have to say that the system itself is very loud. It would be fine if I was in a house with my home theatre, but since I'm currently living in a small apartment, I can't have a massive subwoofer and 5 speakers blaring.

Also, EvF needs to back off the return key a tad.
