Am I really an atheist?

Am I really an atheist?
I've put about 5 minutes of thought into this. I'm not sure.

I do not believe in supernatural beings that create, listen to us, take interest in what we or anything else does, has no "divine plan" for anyone or anything, will punish or reward in any afterlife, or on and on. Generally, my beliefs are best described as "non-belief", just as my "non-hobby" of not collecting stamps.

But, with Anymouse posting things about _The Principia Discordia_ I cannot say for sure. I DO believe in chaos! I spent years in my career in software quality assurance devising tests using mathematical chaos theory. I've written papers about software quality assurance with a good deal of referencing chaos theory. I am 100% sure that chaos exists! Therefore, I'm 100% that Discordia exists!

All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5
The Law of Fives is never wrong.

Hail Eris!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Do you believe in god or gods? If you believe Eris, the goddess of Chaos, exists you are a theist, if not, you are an atheist.

If you cannot answer the question and remain indeterminate you'd then fall into the "grey-area" categories like Apatheism and Ignosticism and so on.

EDIT: oh fuck I've posted something in the Humour board by mistake!

I'm an agent of chaos. That said: I'm also an atheist.

Is it really necessary that everyone have the perfect label slapped on them??

"I'm a neo-existential ... blah blah blah ... pragma... blah blah blah ... agnostic ... blah blah blah ... prima ... blah blah blah ... socialist with a twist of cinnamon."

It gets fucking ridiculous. Be who you are, believe what you will, and the label be damned!

I swear - I think labels are just some dead guy's way of saying, "Hey, I thought of that first!"

Agreed. It is more important that your beliefs are true to who you are than slapping a nice and neat label on them to categorize yourself in relation to others.

easy way to find out. shave your hair off and if there is a 666 on your bald noggin you are an atheist.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

There's the problem. You put five minutes of thought into this, when you should have put twenty-three. Or maybe twenty-three plus five. Or maybe five minus twenty-three. (The answer should have arisen in your mind eighteen minutes before the question.) Fnord. I suggest you read the Principia Discordia again. An atheist should be fully familiar with all holy texts, as they never know which one they might have to refute next. Smile

Of course one can believe the reality of chaos without believing in Eris. Even a Discordian would agree with that. (But a Discordian doesn't really care about things such as belief, (: all things are true, even false things.) Chaos is readily apparent.
