This is a true statistic. Sadly.
I think it speaks more to the irresponsible nature of dipshits, but that's another post.
Anyway, it is because of this statistic that I keep my handgun in a quick-release combination safe. If needs be, I can get at the weapon in seconds, but if you don't know the 6 digit electronic code - you're not getting in.
My only point: its all about responsibility. If you're going to choose to own a weapon - you've got to know how to safeguard not only the weapon, but the people who live in close proximity of that weapon. Obviously, so many do not.
