Hiya. Just wanted to introduce myself so I can make my arrival to the atheist forums feel "official" so to speak. Plus since there was a forum devoted to it I figured I might as well.
I come here mainly to learn from and share ideas/books/discussions with you guys. I love that there is a place with so many people who generally think like I do about the world. That is, prefer truth over what feels good, logic and reason to faith. It's hard finding that locally so I spend a lot of time online.
A lot of my time spent online has been through chat applications amateur debating with theists about their beliefs. It's been fun as a sort of starting point of debating, as I think it's very important to debate religion and I feel like I'm doing a good thing for the world. I'm taking a break from that for now however, as I'd like to learn more and be better equipped before I go into that again. Luckily my job allows me the free time to learn freely about the topics and questions that we atheists generally are interested in. These forums seem like a great place to expand on my journey as a freethinker and rationalist.

So hellooooo.
Hey, that's why I'm here (not the debating part, but educated and informed discussion, which occasionally occurs around here).
Welcome aboard. As the token techno-pagan on this group I reserve the right to extend welcome to all who come here, until the mods ban me or something. Smile
Most of the folk here are nice; some are even reasonable. Others aren't; they show themselves quickly though.

Hiya MG! Many of us might seem alike at first, but believe me, atheism (well, with the exeption of a few deists, theists and pagans) is about the only thing that we all have in common.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Oh you don't have to know much to successfully debate theists. Just remind them that their argument rests on a baseless assertion, and that every statement that follows then boils down to special pleading. When you want to have a laugh, I like reduction to the absurd. Mostly because they don't.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Hey, I'm very special when it comes to pleading. Just ask my atheist wife, BethK. She puts up with my pleading all the time, and as it says up there with my avatar, she can't figure out whether I am an atheist in Wiccan clothing, or a Wiccan in atheist clothing.
And I rode the short bus. (Really. My home town only had enough children to warrant a short bus.)

And some of us even like things like science, rationality, and informed discussion, such as you provide us with.
I enjoy following your posts, Miss Kayenneh. You seem much better educated and informed than I am.

Truthfully that would not be hard, as my education firmly ended at high school. After military service, I edit bodice-ripper Romance novels. Keeps me out of trouble.
Meds are making my fingers numb and I can't type anymore, so I will leave the forum now and let everyone get back to more intelligent conversation.

I couldn't be trusted to edit those novels. I'd be too tempted to find the author and write him/her an ego crushing letter, complete with excerpts from their own novels.

Aaaw mr. James, you make me blush with delight! *stunned by the flatter-gun*
Me, educated? Somewhat yes, but I follow the principle that I shouldn't open my mouth if I haven't thought things through. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (especially if I log in drunk, one just shouldn't do that!).

Wait what? The only times I post are the times when I can find the strength to drag my ass away from the liquor and off the floor. It's a long way up to the keyboard.
