The video I posted in the "Did Darwin Kill God" thread explains the contradictions nicely.

Thanks for the video frodo I watched it and it just goes to show that as you have been saying for a long time that not everything in scripture is meant to be taken literally. In fact the host of the program states that the tales of creation are myths meant to illustrate a deeper truth, and are meant to be interpreted allegorically. Now all you have to do is make the rest of the christian world aware of this.
Creationist use the book of Genesis as their spear head to push forward their theory of their god having created the universe and everything in it.I am more partial to Darwinism since it seems a more practical and scientifically plausable approach. All that video really is saying is that nothing in the bible can be taken at face value, especially when there are two conflicting stories of what is purported to be the same event.I am still very interested in seeing icthus show me the literal explanation to this contradiction.

The way I understand it CP that IS the widespread opinion amongst Christians. Sadly not in your experience.
Chatpilot,(or anybody else), somebody please tell me how to highlite a quote in your post so I can answer your question to me. Thanks for the help.
Icthus
Put the quote between "quote" tags:
Code:
This is the quote
Quote:This is the quote You can also add a name: Code:
This is the quote
Tiberius Wrote:This is the quote Make sure you have the close tag (
) or everything will go wrong
Chatpilot, thanks for the answer and I would love to go through the Bible with you chapter by chapter in the KJV version. Please bear with me a little bit on this post, I have'nt figured out the quote marks so I will jump between 2 of your posts. Your post states a contradiction between 2 of the chapters in Gen. Genesis 1:25-31 is the creation story day 1 to day 6 and I assume there is no contradiction so far. Your question to me is where you quote Gen.2:7-8 and 18-20. I'd like to use 18-25 in my answer if that's OK. This story is in the past tense and I see no problem with stating the events of 2 days in the same sentence- v.19 and out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air(day 5 of the creation as in Gen 1:23-25)and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them(which would have been day 6 of the creation just as in Gen. 1:26-27)and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. The rest of the chapter is the creation of Eve (which is the same as Gen.1:26-27). I believe the 2 chapters to be compatible. On day 5 God created the animals--on day 6 God created Adam and THEN brought the animals to him to be named--after this event and also on day 6 God created Eve. Let me know what you think.
I would love to defend my Bible with you, I would also like to hear some of your defense of Darwinism. I've got a couple of questions for you. I'll start another thread for Darwinism if that's OK. If everything in scripture is not meant to be taken literally how do they decide which is or is not the literal truth? To say that they simply use their brain is not an adequate answer because it means that someone else can interpret it in an entirely different and (to those others) completely justifiable manner ... they must be able to fully explain why it is they regard whatever bits of their bible as false or metaphor and which they do not. They should just write a new bible. One that people can understand, related to the actual world, and makes sense.
They should bring out a bible with 2 checkboxes in front of every verse, one for "literal" and one for "metaphor or allegory". Then have 1000's of Christians work there way through them putting a checkmark for every verse and then compare them all.
It would be interesting to see those results.

Hahhaa yeah. Excellent. Brutal.
OH and make sure those 1000s of Christians aren't all from the same camp and the same kind of Christianity so they're less likely to all agree with each other. Fairest way is 1000s and 1000s of Christians from all different types of Christianity... Even the mormons?!?!?? Lol. EvF |
