Splitting hairs

Splitting hairs
This is an actual debate on facial hair posted in an apostolic pentecostal facebook account. 20 years ago it would have been much worse, and churches used to split over such discussions...

/begin pasted section
I don't understand why in the past year so many Apostolic/Pentecostal men have stopped shaving their facial hair...we are living in the last days and why do they want to live so close to the world...I'm sorry but are men are no longer looking like Apostolic/Pentecost men

Come on...don't stop! Say what needs saying!
Go ahead Bro. Keith and finish it...they need to hear it from another man
In Leviticus the moustache was a sign one was unclean. I don't want to stand before God with a sign of uncleaness.
The reason it is happening is because the minister behind the pulpit is not treaching about holiness in detail, only generalities.
What chapter and verse in Leviticus? They always argue there is no scripture against facial hair...Lev 13:45 The entire chapter deals with leprosy (sin is referred to as leprosy) and the possibility on being proclaimed free and clean by the priest (Jesus our high priest has the power to cleanse us and make us clean today). When no proclamation of clean can be made, the leper had to wear a covering (mustache) on their upper lip so that all would no that they were unclean. I do not want to wear a former sign of uncleaness before men but let my light shine and fave my upper lip uncovered because I Have been cleansed and thus proclaimed by my high priest, the Lord

That is so enlightening...so glad you shared...you and your wife are excellent examples of what Apostolic/Pentecostal's should like...keep on keepin on don't ever change

Why does it matter? Or is it just a personal preference?
Weren't Levital laws specifically for that time?

The best answer I can come up with is that one time it was considered a standard in our churches and a sign of holiness, and now I feel that it is viewed as a personal conviction.
Everything in the Old Testament was given as types and shadows of the New. if there are no absolutes based on scripture then anything and everything is subjective including what constitutes salvation. If one desires to believe they can be saved by standing on ones head, so be it if no absolutes of the Word of God.
So why do I always imagine Jesus with a beard or on the thrown with a big white one J/K I like clean shaven but i believe there is some dispute about what in the law is still in effect and what is not. Though Jesus "came to fufill the law" not do away with it-Some think only the moral law still applies. Obviously some things are changed as in dietary and ceremonial i.e. the mixing of fabrics exc. "Study to show yourself approve" and "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling," I think this applies to areas I would consider debatable or grey. The upc was involved with the business mens association and that was there requirment -no facial hair, just something to consider.
‎13:45 is refering 2 a cloak not facial hair the root word for covering n lev is diffrent from the root word covered n cor. Which is talking about womens hair 2 ps they plucked JESUS' beard, 2 Sam 10: 1-5 why was it considered a shame why were they allowed to stay in Jericho until their beards grew back, they werent lepers

I personally think its like women wearing make-up, its covering their face..somewhat changing their appearance. And even tho not all men who aren't in the church have facial hair its one more way for apostolic men to stand out. It is also way more professional. Facial hair also comes with a spirit of rebellion, I've noticed this personally with men in my family.
This is spreading like an epidemic...I think its the devils way of getting a hold of our men and then what will it be next...the scripture we use for women to wear dresses is in Deuteronomy so is that now just a personal conviction???
It is true we are living in the last days but we cannot live out of context your going off personal conviction JESUS was an orthodox Jew HE had facial hair HE also was our example , HE probably also had priests locks the corners of HIS beard uncut also found in the law modesty in dress is also found in the new testament
Also orthodox Jews believe facial hair is a separation between men and women make up cant be compared because make up does not grow naturally like facial hair we must decide what traditions of men are and what scripture is or should we stay away from the color red and deodorant just to keep it old school
First, people should worry about themselves instead of others. Pray for them but don't condemn them. Also, the actual Rule of the beard was from one preacher in Chicago area that talked the UPC into making the rule to set them seperate from the gay men of the 70s But, that is what makes the world go around, that we are all different, believe different and will be received different. PS. on the post of blaming it on the pastor behind the pulpit. He's not their daddy and they are grown men that can ask their true father whether it's wrong or not seriously here there's alot worst going on now then facial hair. But, I say these guys she's talking about Yuck! you look like a homeless hippy! at least trim it up
I think the reason more apostolic men have facial hair now, is because two years ago at general conference they took it out of the manual...so it's okay to have it and still have a license...So....it kinda had no spirituality to it...just a business decision...I'm just saying though...I'll keep most comments to myself, but I will say it is natural for a man to grow facial hair. And Leviticus states not to mar the edges of your beard...so I think that is why Jesus had a beard, as part of the Law. He fulfilled it. Any extra stuff we do...really matter because we are saved by His blood and His righteousness, not our own merit :) I miss you all very very much!!
Its also natural for a mans hair to grow long 2
I meant to say doesn't matter what we do :)
Corinthians answers that statement does not nature teach us that if a man hath long it is a shame unto him not a beard again we must teach sound doctrine holiness is a necessity without it no man shall see GOD facial hair is not a part of holiness we have scripture for our beliefs but not facial hair your reaching
I think it's imperative to remember that the tradition of not having facial hair was strictly a man-made thing and not a principle we received from God. we have to always keep the right perspective that scripture supersedes church tradition. And in this case organizational tradition. I don't mean to say that tradition is necessarily bad or good; just that scripture is higher:)
you are quite wise. : ) and again I just want to state that we have to look at ourselves and not judge others. I personally believe that the only ones that should be concerned about the beards are the guys with them and God. And, just don't look or date one of those guys go for the one that shares in your beliefs.
Thanks :] ..seriously amen. I am praying that I have the wisdom to decipher whether or not the guys I date are truly evenly yoked with where I stand...so I have to know where I stand:)

Just wanted some feedback, I am sorry this post is so long, but part of the destructiveness of some groups, JMO, is making people into outcasts, ostracising and dividing families over small details of scripture like this. Any thoughts?

Tell them to get a grip..the world isn't "ending" although if they keep this nonsense up it will for them...cos some irate religious nut job will shoot them.

RE: Splitting hairs
they keep giving me material ,too. It's nice to have a place to show people what I have to deal with here.

"A man kept saying to me yesterday the bible says, finally i said sir i have read the bible from cover to cover several times must have missed that. Please QUIT SAYING THE BIBLE SAYS WHEN IT DOSE'T IT BRINGS MORE CONFUSSION TO PEOPLE MIND AND WE KNOW GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSSION."

"My God can walk on water, die 4 every ones sins in the world, then come back to life in 3 days, and save my soul from Hell, What can your "god" do?"
