rise of nations 2 is a pretty neat strategy game. well recomended

Command and Conquer. It has been relased as freeware now a few years back. You should be able to download the whole oldish C&C collections. Runs on just about any PC. Old school and addicting.

Yeah look up abandonware too. May need DOS emulator to run some. Wikipedia has a page of games that have become freeware. With links!
