I don't understand how this has anything to do with religion. It has to do with a shoddy conviction and sentence, but religion?

Religion = fairy tale = religion.
It is a real live (sorry) demonstration of the dangers and power of fairy tales. I.e. the dangers and power of religion.
And not in a distant time in some faraway land, but right now! Right here! Under our noses! In our 'western enlightened' society*!
It kills people IRL!
It's not funny.
*And we're letting it happen.

I saw nothing of "fairy tales" in this article. There have been many appeals and re-examinations of the evidence against him. He was found guilty.
The man took a life. He shot somebody in the face and somehow you believe he does not deserve to die?
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

There's no religion in this. The death penalty is a result of religion somehow? Or do you mean racism?
