I never believed and have never found anything to sway me to become a believer.
All this religious marlarky with their gods and what not seem like a silly idea to me, always has.
I became an atheist probably a short while ago (it was a gradual process). Although while being either a theist or pantheist I have never subscribed to any particular religion.

I can't even fathom a land where the citizens think the disbelief in gods is a COOL thing.
I am not sure how I feel about that. I think people should be atheists because they have a true understanding and they don't see another viable, rational choice. That is why I'm an atheist, but what do I know?
Why are you an atheist? Did you start because it was the trend, and all the kids were doing it, and then get hooked?
I totally agree that atheism is cool, I just want it to be cool for the right, well-informed reasons.... and in America too.
Well, when I first started questioning god, it certainly wasn't cool. I lived in SE Georgia, the heart of the Bible Belt, and it was not a fun time. My friends were cool with it - we debated the subject, but they still loved me regardless. It was those who didn't know me as well as my friends did who weren't cool with it- and I guess one of my friends wasn't as cool with it as I thought? Word got around and I had a few people approach me about the subject. "Hope you like hell" and the like.
So, no, I am not an atheist because it's "cool". In my circle, it isn't cool.

I was atheist from birth. I just remained an atheist through all the years since religion has never provided any evidence for any of it's claims. All it's arguments easily pulled apart. Saw it's errors and huge faults. Saw through it's lies.
Also the principles I stand by prevent any bullshit claim to get through. Not an atheist because of ignorance, coolness, indoctrination or anything like that. Pure and simple, cannot be convinced of some invisible sky daddy.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

It reminds me of those who deny the existence of bisexuality and say those who claim the label are just trying to be trendy.
My reaction was "what planet do you live on and can I move there?"
I guess I'm doing all the cool things these days. Maybe it's a mid-life crisis.

There, fixed that for you, dumbass.
How scared do you think they are when they try to handwave atheism away as a vapid trend?

I am an atheist because I was told it's what all the cool kids believe. I still fear for my eternal soul, but peer pressure is a hell of an influence.
Seriously though, anyone who bases their beliefs on how other people would perceive them is in dire need of a lobotomy.

THE rule of thumb about cool: You either are or you ain't. IF you feel the need to SAY you're cool, you ain't.
Atheism ain't cool or in any way superior to any belief or lack of belief. It is ONLY a disbelief in Gods, and in my experience, not a choice.
It's easy to be lulled into a false sense of superiority because of the atypical dropkicks we get here. (mostly)
