"Food, and Intimacy"
Decade
When you came, you were like red wine and honey,
And the taste of you burnt my mouth with its sweetness.
Now you are like morning bread,
Smooth and pleasant.
I hardly taste you at all for I know your savour,
But I am completely nourished.
~ Amy Lowell
Her breath is like honey spice with cloves,
Her mouth delicious as a ripened mango.
To press kisses on her skin is to taste the lotus,
The deep cave of her navel hides a store of spices
What pleasure lies beyond, the tongue knows,
But cannot speak of it.
Srngarakarika, Kumaradadatta, 12th century
Eating the World
...I want to feed you the flowers of ice
on this winter window,
the aroma of many soups,
the scent of sacred candles
that follows me around this cedar house,
I want to feed you the lavender
that lifts up out of certain poems,
and the cinnamon of apples baking,
and the simple joy we see
in the sky when we fall in love.
James Tipton
The Song of Songs
Give me all the kisses of your mouth.
Your love is better than wine.
Your body oils are fragrant,
your name pours from my tongue.
That is why I adore you.
