" aagh, I can't stand that!

RE: " aagh, I can't stand that!
Keeping in the mindset of the OP ... Radiohead, although famous, is not exactly considered a "classic"

In order to really drive your point home, you have to actually say that you hate a universally classic artist.

Example so far:

Queen
Springsteen
AC/DC
The Doors
U2
The Beatles
Journey

EDITED FOR CLARIFICATION: Only one of these bands I don't like - regardless, they are all easily considered classics.

Radiohead and Coldplay. I think not. Hell, Coldplay hasn't even been around long enough to be even considered "classic"

I pretty much dislike everything Springsteen has ever done. The Rolling Stones and the Beatles don't do much for me - though there are a few songs from each that I do like. Not a fan of U2 either, though some of their early stuff is pretty good. Bono can go choke on his overinflated ego.

I could live a very long life and never hear "Freebird" or "Stairway to Heaven" again.

I agree with MUCH of this post. The only reason I didn't kudos it up was because of the Beatles. I think their song writing was really something.

Don't get me wrong, they were tremendously talented. I'm just not a fan. I can recognize talent even in music I don't personally care for. Perhaps I should have been more clear.

Fuck. I like most of these artists-some with great enthusiasm.

Queen: One of my favorite bands
Springsteen: One of the more talented post-Dylan songwriters; like a lot of his stuff
AC/DC: Love everything by them
The Doors: OK, I think there are only about six Doors songs I like: I hate the rest (organ solos-UGHHHH)
U2: Love 'em.
The Beatles: Holy fucking hell-people hate these guys?
Journey: Guilty pleasure, but love them. Great memories from high school.

Now, besides the Doors, one band I fucking hate, with the exception of "Box of Rain," is the fucking Grateful Dead. I really am grateful that they finally are. I also have little use for about half of The Who's songlist, maybe more.

My post regarding these was VERY unclear. I meant to say that only one of these classics is hated by me, and that of course, would be AC/DC.

Regarding the Beatles - you're right - I'm not sure how anyone could hate them, but I am sure that many people think the same thing regarding AC/DC (for some crazy-ass reason) Dunno

Point of clarification, guys. My intention was to highlight individual crap songs that are considered " classic ". The thread has developed into highlighting acts that are disliked.
That's cool, but I'll continue posting the songs that turn me right off.
These are high-ranking in a list of top 100 songs of all time by everyHit.com and Bohemian Rhapsody was no.1 on the list!!!
Angels was at 3 and this next one was at 23....
much overrated and mediocre imo

Okay - to be specific:

There is one Christmas song I absolutely cannot...will not...deal with. It's called "Christmas shoes" or some shit like that...this sappy ridiculous story of a kid who wanted to buy shoes for his momma on X-mas because she's dying and he wants her to look pretty when she meets Jesus. But he can't afford them, so a stranger buys them for him.

It is the most fucking annoying goddamn song Christians have come up with. I will beat a radio, and have, before listening to it. I will listen to Garth Brooks - one of the country artists who annoys me the most - before I listen to that song.

blech.

Thank you Epi! I knew I couldn't be the only one! Big Grin

..but oh dear. I love the Who Tongue

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Using my own criteria, which I'll violate if I feel like it: It has to be old (20ish years), has to have been a "hit", likely to get airplay on a "classic rock" station, and so thoroughly overplayed that I would rather gouge out my eyes than to voluntarily listen to it again.

These may have been good, even great songs from talented artists - but meh, I've heard them enough. Sorry if I've gored your sacred cow on this list. Cool Shades

1) "Freebird", Lynyrd Skynyrd
2) "Stairway to heaven", Led Zeppelin

In no particular order -

"Jailbreak", Thin Lizzy
"Pinball wizard", The Who
"Bringin' on the heartbreak", Def Leppard
"Yellow submarine", The Beatles
"Silent lucidity", Queensryche
"Born in the USA", Bruce Springsteen
"Jack and Diane", John Cougar (Mellencamp)
"Enter sandman", Metallica
"Jukebox hero", Foreigner
"November rain", Guns 'n' Roses
"Rock and roll all night", KISS
"Lola", The Kinks
"Sweet home Alabama", Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Pour some sugar on me", Def Leppard
"Eye Of The Tiger", Survivor
"The stroke", Billy Squier
"We will rock you / We are the champions", Queen
"I want you to want me", Cheap Trick
"Jump", Van Halen
"I can't drive 55", Sammy Hagar
"The joker", Steve Miller Band
"Born to run", Bruce Springsteen
"Money for nothing", Dire Straits
"Brown Sugar", The Rolling Stones
"Brown eyed girl", Van Morrison
"American woman", The Guess Who
"Another one bites the dust", Queen
"Sharp dressed man", ZZ Top
"Don't stop believin'", Journey
"Another brick in the wall, part 2", Pink Floyd
"Number of the beast", Iron Maiden
