I too want my bloody flying car that I was promised!
I would also like to see virtual reality video gaming systems in every home, and genetically modified food (REALLY modified, not this drought resistant crap, lets make some new animals! I wants me a crocoduck!)

Impossible. We are like cock roaches. Easy to squash a few million of us with a accidental push of a button, or an offhand reference to diety, but utterly impossible to irradicate completely. There will always be a enough survivors to pour back out of their holes to overrun any part of the world that foolish thought itself rid of the homo sapien menace.

When the world ends, the last humans will still be dinning on the corpse of the last cock roach and scavenging parts out of the remains of the last nanobot.

Personal flight. The logistics of air traffic would be a pain in the ass, I think, but it would be awesome.
Given most peoples utter inability to drive competently, giving them aircraft would be one long drawn out catastrophe.
It would however, make for some great youtube footage.
I fly private planes, I haven't made it onto any youtube video (that I know of) yet.

Rev, this isn't Crysis 2. That's a game. It isn't real, it's make-believe.

The nanobots would have to be very damn efficient to accomplish such a task. I would think it's possible, but in all probability pretty damn far fetched, far fetched as in, the stick is on the other side of the universe far fetched. You ain't gonna be fetchin' it for a while.

Ahh, the grey goo scenario, one of my favorite apocolypse scenarios because it could turn the whole world into banana pudding or, or, maybe a giant dead world of metal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goo
What if the nanites were programmed to just remove the upper functions of the brain and stimulate the adrenal gland? HMMM? super fast zombies man!
I work at Intel; I wonder how I could get a job in the programable matter part of Intel. I have looked through jobs online and there isn't anything in there about programable matter. I would think that my knowledge of material analysis might come in handy.

I'm not a big 'Spike' proponent, and I don't know how long Moore's Law will hold, but whenever they finally build a computer as complex as the human brain, figure it'll be availale in a desktop model in ten years. The potential is mind-blowing, but I figure they'll mostly be used for gaming and porn (and gaming porn): picture perfect CGI, you'll be able to have a conversation with it...just sayin'.

I doubt it. With the current population of people spread across the planet it would take a world wide mass extinction event to take us all out. Even then I think there would still be some of us who would survive,
If someone programs these little nanobots to kill alll human life?
Sounds like a plan,as long as they wait until after I've died of natural causes
The good news is futurologists are notoriously unreliable as indeed are paranoid people. (no that I'm suggesting YOU are a paranoid, indeedly doodly not)
