It's really so simple, that I'm amazed no-one thought of it before Darwin.

In essence, that which survives.... survives

@Lotus:

At the risk of simply repeating EvF and Ace's point (which is essentially what I'm doing Tongue, but it's such an important point that perhaps it needs to be made threefold, in 3 slightly different ways)

Disbelieving something because of a lack of evidence is NOT the same as believing something because there is no counter-evidence.

There are many things for which there is no counter-evidence. Faeries, Zeus, the abonimable snowman, Cthulu living in your toilet, but hiding round the U-bend where you can't see whenever you have to go, the list will only be exhausted when your imagination is.

Lack of evidence against these things is not reason to believe them.

If you reject the things I have listed, how can you believe in anything without evidence, without making a totally arbitrary decision about which things without evidence to reject?

Well put Phil.

I particularly like the way you said 'the list will be exhausted only when your imagination is' - great way of showing that basically that not only silly things like the FSM, Zeus and the Tooth Fairy, etc (not really any more silly than "God" though) - that are just as unable to be disproved as "God" - but if you really use your imagination there is potentially, practically a near infinite, truly uncountable number of UNdisprovable things. And for God to simply be 'cherry picked out' shows the total and utter bias there.

For the record I agree this is bonkers too.

Like crazy, but a bit milder.

So, "slightly crazy" maybe...

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I would say bonkers would translate pretty much to "mental" or perhaps "barmy".

Although you may be right.

People often do use it to mean slightly mad. But they do with "mental" too..

E.g: "He's completely mental him!" "Yeah I know I am I'm completely mad" or "He's barmy him" "Yeah I am. I'm bonkers Tongue".

I think many words like that can be used in a lighthearted way to mean 'slightly mad' or 'a bit nuts', etc.

I guess it depends on the context really...I dunno.

I find stuff like that interesting Tongue (perhaps too interesting lol).
