The american dream is a fiction sold to the lower classes to stop them revolting.

In each society there was a 'golden ticket' to a better life that could be yours that served this purpose.
to gladiators it was the rudius.
to slaves it was either the chance of freedom when your master died, or in extreme cases religion promising you a better life after death, (that was the best lie).
To this generation in the UK it is the lotteries 'it could be you'.

Also, if there's anything I hate more than religious nutjobs, it's patriotic Americans. I mean, it's one thing to believe that someone of another faith or no faith at all might cause you some trouble. But it's another thing to believe that someone is a terrorist and/or wants to kill the President just because they're aware that America is not "the best country".[/rant]

There is a black man in the white house right now, so it is now in vogue to talk about killing the president...but you are right, any other president before it was considered un-american to suggest such a thing.
