1. By calling an election now, she gets a win while Labour are weakened by internal conflict and the Lib Dems still haven't recovered from Clegg. If she waits until 2020, given that she's busy trying to kill as many vulnerable and marginalised people that she can (all while misinforming them in to thinking that it's for their own good) and making a complete pigs-ear of Brexit, there's a good chance that Labour would get their act together and the Lib Dems would start gaining some credibility again; almost certainly enough for the Tories to lose.
2. She gets her mandate. A constant criticism from the benches is that her policies have no democratic mandate as she was never elected. By taking advantage of the opportunity outlined in 1., she removes that leash and I'm sure, will happily slap everyone in the face with her newly acquired democratic cock at every opportunity.
3. She entrenches the Tory majority in the Commons. Given the problems in 1., it's likely we'll see more Tory gains which will leave her in the enviable position of being able to put through almost any policy she wants. She's testing that at the moment, what with stealing lunch from poor kids, wheelchairs from people who can't walk and the NHS from everyone. Imagine what she'll do when she's really able to get everything her way; just think of how much money could be moved up the social ladder!
In a nutshell, although she's selling this under the banner of 'What's best for Britain', what she's actually doing is what's best for her and her mates.
I once saw a thread called 'What's not illegal now that should be'. Behaviour such as hers would be on my list.
Quote:Well if Corbyn goes it'll be a Blairite as next Labour leader, and that'll be about as successful as the Tories picking Thatcherite leaders after 1997. Edit: just to say I don't think Corbyn is a wothwhile Labour leader either, his best bet was to have groomed a competent fellow leftie as his successor.
There are only 2 reasons why I think Corbyn's unfit:
1. He couldn't (and still hasn't) sort the party conflicts out. All he had to do was to use his authority and either 'neuter & convert' or get shot of the Blairites who were stabbing him in the back (or assassinate Tony, take your pick!). The fact that he didn't means he's not capable. A leader who can't handle tough leadership situations in his party certainly isn't tough enough to take out the most cantankerous Tory party we've seen since the 80's. We don't want to get stuck in a 'Kinnock' situation again.
2. He wanted Brexit due to his socialist ideology. He believes in local decisions for local people and was at the forefront of the fight against entry in to the EU in the first place. However, ideology aside, Brexit is simply a terrible idea for the very people he's supposed to represent. His half-arsed attempt at opposition betrayed his true feelings and the fact that he couldn't change his opinions to fit the facts of the current situation means he's no more fit to take decisions in the national interest than the current Tories.
Even given those two BIG flaws, we're still better off with him in charge than with May and there's no-one in Labour who's as fit for leadership than he is. I hope we get a modern socialist rather than a Blairite but while I don't want 10 years of Corbyn 'Kinnocking' up the place, I fear that's what will happen.
