That they were closer but we don't know exactly how close. It's purr speculation to say because they are moving away that they were once together. It's as much speculation as all those pieces of evidence you said "it is not constant." and by the way, the irregular decreasing of the strength of the earths magnetic will affect how much carbon 14 existed thousands of years ago making it appear that they are tens of thousands of years old. You brought that up yourself.
So what is your alternative explanation for why the universe is expanding?
Remembering that the BBT has made testable predictions that proved correct.
First, saying that everything was once together is not explaining why it's expanding. That we don't know. We don't know why it's expanding but we know it is just like we don't know why matter has gravity but we know it does. Second what predictions? That hydrogen is the most abundant element? Sorry, we knew that before the BBT.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
