"Was Newton a nonthinker?"

Temporal context has great import here, my throwback friend. Much like the fellow who chooses not to use electricity and drives a horse-drawn carriage into work today, you are a temporal anomaly, whereas Newton was a product of his time, and pushing envelopes of thought despite the dogma which surrounded him. You, on the other hand, capitulate proudly. Enjoy the tallow and methane, old fellow.

"The bible says this is not an evidence issue but a heart issue with the unbeliever. That He has given sufficient evidence to everyone, but those who deny He exists are suppressing the truth due to unrighteousness. That it seems like a logical problem on the surface, but underneath it is a rejection of Gods authority because of sin."

I trust you won't think that was taken out of context of your reply.

So if you believe faith to be an heart issue and not one of rational evidence, what is the point of getting into discussions of this sort? Many christians believe that people only come to Jesus through the witness of the holy spirit, that only once the person has opened themselves up enough can the holy spirit move them.

So what's your endgame then, with discussions like this? Just spray enough verses and christian ideas at someone until they have a crack in their spiritual shell big enough for the holy spirit to get through?

I think these kinds of discussions can be fruitful for a number of reasons, one, to establish a positive dialogue between believers and nonbelievers to foster goodwill. Two, to answer misconceptions about Christianity and the bible. Three, for my own edification. I don't have an endgame, I just felt compelled to speak to all of you, and I have no idea what the Lord plans to do.

Here's another chew toy for you. I said no biting. Tongue

I'm happy to discuss whatever anyone wants to discuss. I haven't preached a sermon here; I am just answering questions that people are asking me about myself, Christianity and the bible. It's not really possible to do that without mentioning scripture here and there.

Tell that to the nearly half of biologists and physicists that believe in a personal God. People are the same they have always been, and saying the same things. The new is old in a different package. So much of what people are discovering today are things we have always known, but forgotten. I am not stuck in the past, I have put away the past. I live in a fallen world as a stranger and pilgrim, and I look forward to a new Earth.

Okay, but just try to go a little easier on the sinning and repenting stuff.
That's the most dangerous preaching zone in this forum Wink and you seem to be going there.

Welcome, by the way.

Welcome brotherly love, hey, you are throwing yourself in the fire, I admire you for that! Athough I think it would be wise to deconvert yourself to a less commercialistic religion. Christ is a wonderful man, but he comes with too much baggage and too much bad history. He may be completely mythological. His legacy HAS not and WILL not be carried out dude. Move on, maybe checkout Buddha mind...it's utterly cosmic and much more entertaining!
You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.

So you are compelled to speak to atheists about these things because you don't think we correctly understand your faith, you wish to edify yourself, and you want to be amiable neighbors with your fellow humans?

Or do you think that clearing up misconceptions and having dialogue may pave the way for the holy spirit to speak to us, also while edifying you in the process?

Welcome, by the way.

Hey Rayaan. Smile I understand what you're saying. I am not here to condemn anyone, I am just here to talk. Nice to meet you.

Thank you BGood. Smile Nice to meet you, again. Smile Which do you think would be better, to know the mind of a man, or to know the mind of the God who created him? I do not believe Jesus to be just a man, and if you examine His claims, you'll see He didn't see Himself that way either. I have checked out buddhism, as I mentioned before, and although I think buddha had some good insights, he didn't solve the problem of sin and death. In the end, he died like every other man has, whereas Christ did solve the problem, and is alive, and sitting at the right hand of power. That is why I trust in Him.

Certainly, I am praying for you friend. I always pray for God to bless the lives of those I speak with.

I was just waiting for you to admit that you hoped the holy spirit could reach some of us through you being here.

Fair enough. That's all I was looking for.

Very nasty individual there pal.
And definitely not worthy of worship

John 6:44

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Everyone is given opportunities to repent. It isn't like you could go out and act like Hitler and expect to repent later. Hitler may have been offered a chance before he took over Germany, but I doubt God gave him a chance afterwards. All sin was paid for but it doesn't mean people who do extremely wicked things are universally offered salvation at any time.

You think?

Then what about deathbed conversions or the born agains in prison that led evil lives until they "found" jesus.

And your theology is quite adamant that anyone at anytime can ask for forgiveness which will be granted regardless of their sins.

Yet a person can live a good charitable life but is still condemned to hell because he doesn't believe in your dead jew on a stick.

If that is "divine" justice then forget it.

My moral code won't accept that shit, even if it was true.

Strange, I've only came to peace when I turned atheist. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Either way, Welcome
