Jaybob,

I'm relatively new here also, but will still extend a Welcome. I am a fellow Georgian, well I've lived here for the last 8 years.

Telling my wife I was atheist was pretty traumatic. The horror and disappointment she expressed was tough to deal with. I wasn't expecting it since religion was never a discussion point. She prays every night, never goes to church and thinks the idea of the trinity is absurd. We had only been married two years at the time, but we're still going strong sixteen years after my confession.

At first she didn't accept my reasoning and proclaimed it was just a phase. Then she would say affectionately that I was going to hell; to which I replied 'maybe so, but when you get there you'll be surprised to find I'm in charge'...so it became almost fun.

I hope your experience in this matter eveolves as well as mine did. I did lose some friends, but took solace in the fact that we would not have been friends to begin with if I were honest about it up front; their problem not mine, but unfortunate at a certain level.

Jim

The spouse, wow, that really has to be hard.

None of us really can tell you how to deal with it because we are not there in the moment. Only you can asses best how to deal with it. But, whenever you want to hop on line to vent, there is a huge community of people who know what you have been through and can relate.

Welcome.

Welcome to the jungle! We've got fun and - pizza. But you have to bring your own pizza.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
