If this happens over and over, that strain will go the way of the dodo, or so says your prophet Darwin.

Yes, the strain might die out, but the thing is, your "survival of the fittest" idiocy a few pages back isn't right at all: evolution selects for traits that aren't sufficiently disadvantageous to lead to death, not just for advantageous traits. So long as this weaker strain can still survive- over successive generations, not just individual cases- then it will persist, whether there's a better strain out there or not.

It's the same reason we humans have spinal nerves better suited to quadrupedal, hunched over walking; it's actually highly disadvantageous for us, but because it's not outright killing us, it persists.

Quote:But, this strain seems to be doing just fine as cases of it have been so numerous 'science' could no longer ignore it, and had to not only document it but come up with some cock and bull story as to why thee cases keep coming up. (Other than answered prayer.)

The real answer is, surprise surprise, you don't know anything about evolution, yet you decided to spout off on it anyway.

Quote:How does this differ from your catch all? Why is your catch all term permitted, and ours is deemed a social blaspheme?

Because you're being an idiot, and misrepresenting what's actually happening: scientists don't just blindly accept miracle claims because there's never once been a recorded instance of one that didn't later turn out to be something else. Moreover, you seem to just be pissed that we look for what actually happened, rather than just accepting your claims sight unseen.

I know investigation must be scary to a person happy to accept "godidit" as an answer to everything, but that doesn't mean there's some blind hostility to your unsubstantiated bullshit. Just the usual level of skeptical disbelief until you can demonstrate it to be true.

Which you still haven't done, by the way.

Not an isolated incident. Not even close. I have a friend who almost died because he got e-coli in the Alaskan Wilderness on a church retreat when he was 16. He had it at a level that is easily treatable in modern hospitals but instead the true believers decided that they could just pray disease away. At what point do we start prosecuting people for this?

At the level when the one overtly influences another to commit this form of suicide.

"Survival of the most adaptable" is the primary rule of evolution.

Why waste you breath......He's going to ignore this and keep repeating what he thinks works for him.

As much as I'd love for people like this to be punishable by the law, it doesn't quite make sense to do it. Since the victim wasn't forced to take their advice. And if you look hard enough, there're plenty of people out there who likes to give advice to people when they're sick. Especially to cancer victims. Unfortunately too many people don't understand enough about medical sciences or research to properly make a decision, and they believe in pseudoscience. And what's worse is they tend to hide it form their doctors because they know their doctors don't approve, which of course leads to more problems.

@Drich, read up on evolution of this strain of virus used to curb rabbit's population growth in australia. I don't remember its name. Look it up though, quite a well-known textbook example of viruses going from deadly to less deadly, now it doesn't kill any rabbits. It is the norm. Becoming less deadly increases their fitness.

So the reason the author wrote the book nor his views of God or Christianity is any part of this discussion?

If that is the case then Dawkins evolution fits nicly into my combined account of Creation/Evolution.

(August 18, 2013 at 9:45 pm)Ryantology Wrote: A polar bear needs thick insulation to survive in an arctic climate. If you transport a polar bear to a tropical climate, it will have to adapt many of its habits to survive, and if it reproduces (ostensibly with other, similarly-afflicted polar bears), attributes such as coloration and insulation will necessarily alter over generations to better suit the environment. This produces polar bears much less capable of surviving polar climates, not only because certain attributes making life possible in the arctic are a drawback in the tropics, but because the bears will have to come up with a different diet which is probably much lower in fat and, therefore, unable to sustain fatty insulation anyway. That's how evolution works. It can also be the result of a random mutation which leaves the organism more vulnerable in some way, but because they are lucky enough not to face the specific threat, they may pass on a lack of protection for several generations, adapting to its absence. Which may come back to hurt it later if the threat really isn't gone. Evolution does not necessarily produce improvements all the time, nor are all of its adaptations beneficial or guaranteed to work.

Evolution is far more complicated than you obviously think.

Do you not see how your analogy fails?

In your analogy the 'polar bear's environment' has changed thus requiring adaptation in order for the species to continue. In the case of the "elite controller" the enviorment does not change. yet the virus mutates into a weaker form allowing the body to recover from it. This is for all of you who ask Why doesn't God do miricals any more?

The Answer: He does. We just will not concede to what they really are and document them.

Drich once and for all there are no such things miricals....quit deluding yourself

It's not really for him: it's curbing the progress of his bilious misinformation into the minds of others.

And it feels good to debunk stuff. Big Grin

Absolutely; unfortunately. I wish we lived in a world in which influential people who are seemingly convinced reality is just a matter of opinion weren't trusted as authority figures. Until that happy day, we would be derelict in our duty not to resist it where we can.

And as the bunnyhorse said, it's fun.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Which says nothing about the validity of your claim, which I assume that if you knew that, you wouldn't have randomly tossed it in there.

It's about evolution, idiot. Something you know NOTHING about.

BTW, regardless of what Dawkins writes....your god is still a pile of primitive shit. Grow up.

And he certainly should have thrown in a few shots at the creatards, FNM. But he stuck to the topic.

Why all the hatred, Min.? What did I ever do to you? Tongue
