Don't be so afraid of death that you forget to live.

Bingo! And...

My Lion King suggestion was no joke...my kids learned a certain fearlessness from watching it. Circle of life, and all that promises...

Accepting the fact that something is inevitable doesn't make it less scary somehow. Nor does it make the idea of an afterlife anymore realistic.

It's a very personal thing, Capn. All we can do is relate our own personal outlook on the subject. How we approach and accept it is obviously very personal.

On January 2nd of this year, I had to be put into an induced coma for nearly a week to save my life, and it was by no means assured that I would awaken. I can't say that I know what dying is like, but I imagine that it could be like slipping into the dreamless sleep of coma. If that is the case, then I know I have nothing to fear. During that period, I had no memory, no consciousness - nothing but the void of nonidentity.

I can live with that. So to speak.

Experiencing death close at hand sure gives you a whole new perspective on life. I realised my own mortality.

I like Woody Allen's remark about this. Something like: "I don't mind the idea of death. I just don't want to be there when it happens."

I on the other hand hope that I appreciate life enough, not needing to be close to death in order to realize what I've got. Smile
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

waxing long and hard on death is masturbatory at best. (did you like how I put waxing, long, hard and masturbatory in one sentence without making it directly sexual?)

Anyone who frets over their own certain demise is merely persecuting themselves for no reason, and likely has some masochistic tendency - if only in some small degree.
Don't be the least be surprised that that same person enjoys listening to really sad songs and movies that make them cry.

I have no sympathy for those who are "terrified" of the #1 most natural occurrence in the universe. How retarded can one possibly be? A tad apprehensive - maybe, but terrified? Certainly not.

I guess you are one of those people who are lucky enough not to have a phobia.

It is healthy to be scared of dying - it helps to keep you alive.

But I have to admit that I'm more frightened about dying in a painful way.

As the old joke goes:

When I die I want to go out like my grandfather. Peacefully in his sleep.

Not screaming in terror like the passengers in the car.
Any spelling mistakes are due to my godlessness!

I remember when I was starting to die of hypothermia - I just did not give a shit. Death really isn't scary and it's the whole dying part that is unpleasant.

I'm looking forward to dying that's how hard and heroic I am.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
