I have nothing for or against gnomes, as you guys haven't provided anything.

There you go, people who speak of fairy encounters. How are these people any different from the biblical writers who claimed to encounter Yahweh?
I looked further into the first one. It's by an artist who sells artwork depicting, among other things, fairies. I see no evidence that her accounts of fairies have caused her duress. So, it's weaker evidence than Paul for example.

Before you get to SAUL, or even the words "in the beginning" for that matter, your starting position is an imaginary sky daddy. So arguing over Paul(SAUL) is meaningless. You might as well be a Star Wars fan arguing for the Force.

There is more evidence for Mickey Mouse than there is for your imaginary God. The difference is we know Mickey Mouse is fiction. You simply haven't accepted that your God is fiction.

Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes fame) was convinced fairies were real. There was a famous photo of 2 little girls playing with fairies at the bottom of their garden that had him totally convinced.

What does duress have to do with anything?

The idea is that Paul wouldn't make up a story if he thought it was going to lead to all of the crazy shit he experienced, which included being stoned (with rocks, not weed) and left for dead on one occasion.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

People are likely to recant an invented claim if it causes them sufficient duress.

I would think the notion of dying for your religion would be sufficient duress, which means that Muslim suicide bombers must believe in something that is true.

As previously noted, acceptance of duress is evidence that the claimant believes himself that the claim is true. It doesn't prove that the claim is true.

So you are open to the idea that Paul could have been wrong?
