But I don't hate the church. Hell I photographed quite a few in England and Europe. Very picturesque. The music can be nice. People seem to enjoy the comradery and some do a lot of good through charity. Nothing to hate there.

It is when the religious seek to enforce their moral choices on the general public through secular law that I chafe. If they think their religion gives them inspiration for a legislative improvement I would simply ask that they argue for it on secular grounds.

I certainly don't hate 'god' - whatever that may be. Far from it. When I was a believer I thought he was the greatest. Now - and this may be where my prideful intellect gets in my way - I don't even know what people mean by 'god' anymore. Really. It means lots of different things to lots of different people, but it is an empty signifier to me.

It depends if you mean regular atheists, the lost sheep from the flock or the New Atheists/anti-theists the wolves that go after the sheep to bring them out of their world of superstition and delusion to face the true pure reality of the Godless universe. Here's how Christians view theists. At leat this one. Angry. Or lazy and selfish. Or prideful.
Some hate god. So they say they don't believe in a god that would allow some tragedy or evil to befall them earlier in life. Why didn't god protect me from that? Howcould a good god allow that to happen to us?
Some get so caught up in their own selves, that they look for reasons to deny a god that asks us to think of others first. I want to buy that yacht and have sex with as many as I can at a time, and never have to go to church... So out of necessity they have to deny god to clear their conscience.

Now, I too wish I could have engaged in debate with any of those "intellectually superior" individuals, just so I could show what a sham they are. As long as they had to adhere to one of the most important stipulations of debate [no fallacious arguments allowed], I would happily debate them. What concise arguments are you talking about? Are you talking about the ones laden with ad-homs and strawmen? That's not concise, you idiot, that's fallacious; fallacious arguments are not concise, they are dismissable and erroneous. Discussions with them get heated, but it's out of frustration; you can only show someone so much evidence of how and why they're wrong, and being ignored each time you do so, before you start to lose your patience with them.
