DESTROY NOAH'S ARK
#11
RE: DESTROY NOAH'S ARK
Here are just a few problems with the ark.
  • It's 450 feet long by 300 feet high by 75 feet wide. I would like to point out that at a certain length (something less than 300 feet), ships invariably begin to get less and less seaworthy. You simply cannot entrust something you can't expect to stay afloat with the preservation of life on Earth.
  • By simple calculation, the Ark had a volume of 10,125,000 cubic feet, which is not likely to contain all 8.7 million species estimated to live on Earth.
  • To get around this, some creationists note that Noah did not take two of every species, but two of every "kind". Apart from the fact that they have never given an adequate definition of "kind," even if they could get the number small enough to fit on the ark, this would, ironically enough, not only actually require evolution (and speciation specifically) to happen, but to happen at such an alarming rate that nobody could deny it.

And then you tell them they owe you a kJ.

Also, be prepared to explain what a Joule is. If you're in the U.S., a kilo will also need to be explained to this crowd.

God does come up with such a convoluted way of killing the entire population of the Earth.

It's almost as if ancient people made up a story about a local flood they experienced.

It would be nice if people would stop trotting this one out. It's utterly wrong.

All of the atmosphere would be above the water. Think about it.

The oxygen would get pushed up with the water? I'm not sure if that would really work. Can you give a citation or something?

Seriously? Do you even science?

Where do you think the atmosphere ends up? Underwater?

It's called density. The atmosphere floats above the more dense ocean due to gravity.

forced into outer space. I figure the world holds as much atmosphere as it does because that's about as much as it can. If you push all the air up like that, it gets pushed out of the gravitational field and scatters into space. Not that I have anything hard to back it up. That's just was I think would happen.

RE: DESTROY NOAH'S ARK
(March 25, 2014 at 9:40 pm)Chad32 Wrote: Where to begin with all the problems?
with the first one.

Quote:How did the animals get to the ark, sometimes across the seas, leaving no trace of migration?
what does a multipoint orgin single destination migration look like of as few as one pair of animals look like after 4000 years?

Quote:How did Noah and his family build a wooden boat that's far bigger than it's actually possible to build without it breaking apart in the water? The boat is at once too big and too small.
ROFLOL
You know thier is a dutch builder who built one to scale right?
http://www.today.com/id/43492787/ns/toda...noahs-ark/

Quote:How did he fit so many animals in there, plus food and water, and keep them all alive in what must have been a very cramped space?
The Ark is not a logistical story of how one saves the planet from God's best efforts to flood and destroy everything. The story of the Ark is a story of How God used one's man's faith and effort to save the good that was left from the evil that was consuming everything else.

Quote:How did they keep from freezing or suffocating to death in high altitudes, which would need to be higher than Mount Everest?
Think about it for a second...Thinking They were not at high altitudes they were literally at sea level.

Quote:How did any aquatic life survive the flood, and the mixing of salt and fresh water?
How does aquatic life survive "Brackish water" now In fresh water estuaries? http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/education/k...fresh.html and at the mouth of a river.

There is a 'zone' where the two come together, but because salt water and fresh water are at two different levels of density they will automatical remain seperate unless forced together. All of the fresh water in the aquifers of Florida work on this principle. Here is an artical that explains a similar process in the bahamas
http://www.newark.osu.edu/facultystaff/p...e-talk.htm

In which case the salt water creatures go further out to sea and the fresh water creatures go further 'in land.'

Quote:How did the animals get back home while leaving no trace?
Again what 'trace' would there be of 2 animals walking or flying home after 4000 years?

Quote:What did anyone eat after everything on earth was destroyed? All the plants should be dead, and the only meat left would be one male and female of each animal, so what did the carnivores and herbivores eat?
Again, not a logistical tale. If it were I would think it would say that God would have made the animals go dormat so as not to use resources till they were in abundance again.

Quote:What kept genetic defects from happening through inbreeding?
who's to say we are not at the threshold of genetic defects right now? Some would argue that we are potentialy all mutants, now. which mean what is 'normal' to us, May not be what was Noah's people were..

Some even argue that the fact that we are subdivided into different races with exaggerated physical attributes, and not all one monotone race, means we are genetically distorted..

Kinda like the purest bred of German shepard's are worthless as anything other than a specimen of what the breed standard is. (Their hind legs are too short, and can bearly support their own weight) where as 'muts' repersent a vareity of different genomes and do not typically have the problems 'pure breeds' do. (Muts can interbreed with muts to less ill effect than pure breeds can)

Quote:If it was all Yahweh keeping it from falling apart, why put so much effort into making the plan work?
To demonstrate the power willingness and lenths God is will to go and support a man of Faith.

Quote: Not even getting into how horrific and immoral the idea of flooding the world is.
If you had termites would you have your house tented to wipe them out?
The world view of the flood usally starts out with 'everyone is basically good people.'
This is not the case with what was destroyed in the flood.

Quote: If I made a nice car, but had to constantly maintain it to keep it from immediately falling apart, no one is going to care if it works or not. They'll just wonder what the point is.
so, things like a Lambo, old mussle cars, or top fuel dragster (The engine and transmission has to be rebuilt after EVERY 1/4 mile run) are pointless to you?

Just because you do not understand the point, does not mean their isn't one.

RE: DESTROY NOAH'S ARK
Watching Drich defend the Noah's Ark story in utter seriousness is a like a watching a slow motion train wreck. God's willing to drown babies to show his support for one man's faith? And you people wonder why you are quickly losing your credibility on social issues and public policy (grown up stuff).
