overall I feel like crapola -- an autoimmune flare hit hard and fast and I'm afraid the doctors I need aren't in Wichita. Not to mention poor care in general. The medical care sucks here vs Colorado, but its at the altitude I need. Im sort of a mess atm actually.

This is not good!

What do you mean "at the altitude I need"?

Got a bit of a "flare" happening myself atm. Mine though isn't that serious and I have the drugs I need to deal with it.

It's times like this when I think... "Intelligent design, my big fat fucking arse!" Hehe

Define "mess". Sorry, but text is very poor at delivering conversational inflection.

Yeah, I get down at times. It's part and parcel of being human. Never stay there and besides.... IF I didn't feel down how the hell am I going to know how I feel when I'm up?

Feeling down or depressed is part of being human. Things happen that drag you down. However if someone is sad all or most of the time for no particular reason then that is what I consider depression.

Thanks for chiming in. :)

I'm not depressed. I am realistic but not depressed although other people find me to be 'depressing' possibly because i'm not overly optimistic about shit.

Well other than my dog dying of cancer I am not depressed in the least. Grumpy as shit but not depressed.

And my daughter is dancing on air at the moment because I just confirmed I'm getting her an iPad mini for her birthday which is next Saturday.

As far as I'm aware, I'm not depressed.
The only drugs going in this system are the ones in normal food... being in the EU, not many are allowed, so I guess I'm fairly clean.

Sure, life has ups and downs, but I have no apparent need for a chemical rebalance.

I'm....fairly happy. I have a good life. Comes with a bit of stress, but nothing too horrible. One of my personality traits is crankiness, though, but underneath that, I'm happy. Smile

Something I've noticed in reading through this thread. There seems to be an idea, whether it's intentional or unintentional, that depression is largely a choice. One of my friends has battled clinical depression for a few years, and she would love to choose to be happy, every day. It's not something she can 'will' herself out of, unfortunately.

So, while there are times when we all may become 'depressed,' there are many others who are that way on a continual basis, and without meds, and professional assistance, they find living life with any sense of joy, a real challenge.

I understand where we are all coming from. lol Just wanted to point that out, because it's not always a matter of 'will power' when it comes to depression. For some, it is a true battle.

Well I've heard that clinical depression is because the signals and chemicals in your brain aren't working right, which is why you need drugs to counter it. So it's not a choice, though it is good to figure out what you're dealing with exactly. If it's just coming on hard times and not feeling good about life, or if you really need to see a doctor.

Sometimes it is. Sometimes the level of depression you are feeling is a choice.

I think that if you are not trying to overcome it then you are choosing to keep it. Some people may need medicine but a lot of people just need to have self discipline and train their mind not to be depressed.

Regardless of the severity of the condition I feel that self discipline can at least help the situation and sometimes overcome it. Someone that sits and wallows in it is choosing to remain there. If you are at the bottom of the pit get up and do something productive.

You're right. It's not a choice. The only choice she has is what she's going to do about it.
I think if you have a clinical depression, medication is a must. The modern SSRI medicines are very good, and can give you a springboard. Problem is you have to take advantage of it.
