Oh, I'm sorry. You heard it from a psychologist? Well then it must be true!

Me? I just think anyone who pretends to know the motivations of a rapist with any degree of certainty is a fucking idiot.

Unless ofcourse they are a rapist themselves. In which case they could give us some pretty good insight.

Whats the point of having all those people making psychologyical studies if were not gonna take in count their results? There are a lot of studies about school bullies, kleptomaniacs, nymphomaniacs and claustrophobic as well. And to be honest I don't think that to understand the patients one has to start doing those activities as well.

What's wrong with that one?

When did I say that? When did I say we should not pay attention to psychological studies? Go ahead and show me one so that I can give it due consideration. I was responding to a guy who said some psychologist told him that rapes are about power and control. As though that is definitely the case. Bullshit. That's talking out your arse if I ever saw it. There is not conclusive evidence for the claim he made. One psychologist's say so is not compelling evidence. A large amount of psychological studies on the subject might have some say in it, but as of yet nothing about such has been posted in this thread. I'd be interested to see the statistics on how many rapes occur whilst intoxicated too, as that could go a long way to throwing doubt on this whole idea. I flat out call bullshit on this claim.

RE: Rape
I always took extreme offense to the point I visibly bristle when I've been told or have heard the silly bullshit that "all men are potential rapists." There's also the whole thing revolving around "rape culture" and other silly shit perpetuated by extremist feminists.

If you think all men are potential rapists, then fuck you. I am not a potential rapist. I can refer to the DCRCC that I have over five thousand hours of volunteer service given over to them to provide counseling for rape victims. The act of committing a rape is so vulgar to me that I have a personal directive, a standing order self-given you might say, to murderous action against any rape who comes within physical contact range of me. This is not an exercise in flexing nuts; I went for someone's throat with a knife when I was younger when I found out the guy had raped his little sister's friend, and only a couple years after that I beat a guy into a vegetative state with a bat for raping a friend of mine. I haven't come across any since then, at least none to my knowledge. I'm not going to say "just as well, I don't want a run in with the law," because the law doesn't scare me there.

To just summarize: I would kill someone with a stony expression on my face if I found out they were a rapist. That is the depth of my dislike for rapists.

So when I am told by a bunch of Rosie O'Donnells that I am a potential rapist, you can probably understand why I suddenly start baring my teeth.

See, the statement is insulting in another way, too; it implies that all men are animals, slaves to their urges and primal instincts. Men who beat their women, who rape women, or girls, ARE animals...but they are the extreme minority.

I am not a slave to sexual urges, and if I WAS feeling a bit lonely, I'd just go to a strip club, pick which girl on the stage was most appealing, and talk my way into her thong, IT'S NOT HARD. And if THAT wasn't doable [say, for reasons regarding my own self-respect], I'D JUST JACK IT. Fuck, it's all I do these days for sexual gratification anyways. No man is ever so desperate for sex that he needs to rape a woman for it.

Rape is perpetuated most commonly by narcissists, victims of childhood rape themselves, and/or by simple sociopaths. Your average dude of today is not gonna be any more likely to rape a woman than one of those pretzel-ovaried feminazis are going to be.

RE: Rape
Of course we want to work on it from all sides. Teaching that rape is wrong should be something that we would all teach our kids from early on and society should strongly back this teaching up. Government needs to have stiff penalties for rape and carry them out consistently. But since there will always be rapists, we need to be smart and protect ourselves the same as we protect ourselves from other dangers. If most rapes occur during episodes of drunkenness, then a woman shouldn't get drunk around men she doesn't know well or always stay close to friends in those situations. Don't be alone with anyone you don't completely trust. Don't walk down dark streets alone, etc. If you're going to put a rapist in prison for a while and then let him out, then he should go through psychological evaluation and treatment before he's out there again so as to limit the chances of him repeating the crime. Maybe we should register all rapists like we do child molesters. One poster stated that rape occurs to men also, so what I say I would apply equally to all.

I'm pretty sure that (in the US, anyway) rapists are entered into the same sex offender registries as child molesters.

I think this may be a misunderstanding. If you're referring to the article "Schrodinger's Rapist" or its ilk, the impression I got is that if you're a stranger, she doesn't know you. You may be a nice person but sociopaths can also seem nice until they strike.

Given the grim statistics that one in four women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes, it seems only a rational precaution that women take a guarded attitude toward any man they don't know well.

But the psychologist got the insight from doing interviews with CONVICTED RAPISTS IN PRISON for her masters. Please note rapists is in the plural form.
