With stirring rhetoric such as "Fascism wants man to be active and to engage in action with all his energies; it wants him to be manfully aware of the difficulties besetting him...," he sounds almost like my doctor telling me to exercise.

Although I think you're right that Mussolini was more important to history than we credit him for. The Nazi rise might have been harder without him there. Plato is a little over my head with the cavebound folks watching the shadow show outside.

Hitler would actually be a better candidate then mossulini. The reason being that Hitler was a far more cunning manipulator then mossulini. Of course several years ago I watched a interview with an Italian veteran and he made the rather interesting proposition that Mussolini's downfall had to do with the Italians national character.
