Ah, I see! Progress is bad. Now we're getting somewhere Or rather, not.
Progress brings knowledge and understanding, which are the arch nemisiseses of religion.

Using god logic, god should have sent a torrential flood and drowned everyone in the valley after Uzzah touched the ark.
They have got an explanation for that one; God swore he would never again flood the world with water in the Rainbow Covenant sealed with Noah after the flood.
It doesn't rule out other forms of smiting the entire world, just water Smiting individuals with water too is still on the table.
The thought of the biblical god being consistent using individual water smiting makes me chuckle.
I could imagine a water spout coming out of the sky or a ceiling and drowning any person god gets pissed at.
In the story of Moses, god could have sent thousands of little water spouts to drown all of the first-born children of Egypt, water spouts would've been popping up in cribs.

David decided to move the ark and used a new cart guided by two men, Uzzah and Ahio. When one of the oxen pulling the cart stumbled, Uzzah-naturally- put his hand on the ark. God, according to the story, killed Uzzah for trying to stop the ark from falling.
Quote:Then the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him dead on the spot for his irreverence, and he died there next to the ark of God
The bible describes god as being very angry because he tried to steady the ark. To Christians, why do you believe god punished Uzzah for trying to keep the ark from falling to the ground? I know that not every Christian on this site believes that the stories are literal. If you believe that this story is just an allegory then what is it teaching?
I don't know why "god" killed the guy but what I see here is a classic example of why equipment should be grounded when there's an electricity running on it. There's nothing else that can kill a man instantly by a simple touch, except for electricity. I'm sure it wasn't god who killed him.

Might be off-topic, not sure, but someone said that one allegorical meaning might be that Uzzah tried gaining an equal footing with god, and that's why he died. I remember being told, in childhood, that whoever saw god died on the spot.
How grim is this shit, exactly? You'd think seeing God or trying to know him more closely would have lovely effects, but no, the slave must keep his dirty hands off the celestial master.
Also, would be glad if anyone might either confirm or dispute this particular Medusa-like attribute of God.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

No, he just fell over giggling to himself. At least he doesn't wake up cranky, like some other children.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Then that means everyone that goes to heaven will die.
