I like that word! We use it a lot in my house. I've been rabbiting on about some nonsense, and my wife says, "I'm displacing that" and then starts a sensible conversation instead.

Right, right! What a noble sacrifice. God never steps in to stop me either, so he must approve. I could get away with it for 80 years, sending thousands of people to heaven, in return for my one single sacrifice of my own happiness.

Or who knows? I can just ask for forgiveness before I finally shoot myself, and I'll get in too.

Yup, this whole thread shows how dangerous religious ideas are if people acted like they believe them. Thankfully, there seems to be a part of their brain which pulls the strings that has reasonable doubts.
