Ask a patient in a psychiatric facility

A straight jacket would do me more harm than good. Just seeing one pictured gets me tensed up a little.

Pro-tip (and I speak from past experience) - be cooperative and compliant and they don't restrain you. I was introduced to physical and chemical restraints when I was 17 and quite combative and I care not to repeat that.

Recreational restraints are a different kettle of fish entirely for me.

Oh god I'm sorry CD you experienced that, but I am glad you learned the trick to avoiding it. Being physically restrained (non-consensually) is the worst.

Hope you get your meds and head straight. Never had to be in a facility before (although it may have been a good idea), but I known the pressures of depression and anxiety. Hope Kitty gets you some good reading materials. I hope she's okay too. Can't be easy for her.

Cooperative and compliant... That sounds a little disturbing. But I guess it's no one particular person's fault if there's anything wrong with the system. Maybe if people were better trained to assess situations in such places...

Care to wager on that?  PeaceHealth Memorial in Vancouver WA.  Not only is there an internet-enabled PC for patient use, I was allowed to keep my smartphone and there's free WiFi.

I've posted on these forums while I was on a ward a couple of years back too, just like a couple of posts, I'm sure.

Also even if I didn't, I could have. Internet and phone.

That's simply not true.

They had internet when I was on a ward.
I've been on an acute ward 3 times myself, that's why I struggle to think of questions.

I would like to know how different it is in America... so I thought of asking if it was more religious, but CD already said despite it being a Christian place it seems kinda secular in practice.

So... hm.
