Religions cannot exist any other way.
There is faith involved only because there IS nothing else.

Some are in it for sex with children, I s'pose....
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

RE: Why?
That is one of the things I fund so dumb and frustrating.

"God gave us our own mind. God gave us free will. Now ignore all of that and just do what I say, or else!"

RE: Why?
Quote:Why can't we just move on?

Because it is human nature to prefer a comforting falseness to discomforting truth.  It is far, far easier to accept 'You will live in Heaven forever' than 'When you die, you stay dead forever'.

Quote:Why dont we stop commiting so much money to religion, and instead, commit all that money to science and research?

Because all science can give us is better health,  more crops, cleaner air, and a better understanding of the universe in which we live.  This pales in comparison to what religion offers - eternal life (this is also why people play lotteries - why invest your money when you can beat the odds of umpteen jillion to one and be rich?).

Quote:Why are people so dishonest when defending religion?

Mostly, they aren't.  'Wrong' and 'dishonest' mean different things.

Quote:Why are all arguments for religion unconvincing?

I think this one may be because the conclusions the arguments are trying to reach are so far out of everyday experience that premises have to be pretty far-fetched themselves in order to give the argument any semblance of consistency.

Quote:Why wont people question their beliefs?

Because thinking hurts.

‘But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods or no gods. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.’ - Thomas Jefferson

God does everything in mysterious ways because he's trying to act cool and he has a major self-esteem problem.
Same reason he wears sunglasses at night.

Because everyone needs to give there life some form of meaning before they die.

Well, lunatics believe if we pray hard enough he will give us the answers right away.

Why are people so dishonest when defending religion?
Easy. Brainwashed.

Why are all arguments for religion unconvincing?
The book is false. Man made. So it only makes sense.

Why wont people question their beliefs?
Brainwashed.

Why.
Brainwashed.

Too many whys, too much speculation. These questions are more like distractions. I stopped caring why people belief in what they do years ago.

In a word, they're religions.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I think a lot of it is just fear.
Because they were brainwashed into thinking there is something to be scared of.
Totally.

Agreed. When I was a Baptist it was only fear.
