Your thoughts on the protests

They're just further pushing ppl away from their preferred party/ideology by doing that though. They're coming off as entitled and bratty bc their candidate didn't win.  

Most ppl who voted for Trump are middle aged blue collar workers who think millennials and their liberal ideologies are lazy and entitled. These protests are only validating what Trump voters already think of "the other side."

And when Drumpf's fans wear sheets and hoods, carry guns and wave rebel flags they play into what the other side thinks of racist rubes.  It works both ways.

Look, I'll be honest with you.

As you know, my husband is a pilot in the AF and we live in a very small military town in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much everyone we interact with here is military. My friends here are all military wives, and his friends here are all the people he works with. Even though my husband and I voted 3rd party, the vast majority of military officers and their spouses voted for Trump. Not because they liked him. And I can tell you right now they're not members of the KKK and they don't have rebel flags. Guns, yes, most of them do own some. They are in the military after all. 

But my point is, these people aren't racist bigots who love Trump. They're not the KKK. They're not racist. They begrudgingly voted for him because they saw him as a better alternative to Hillary and to the liberal ideology. These are hard working, honest people who believe in serving their country, and are very very much underpaid for how much they work and what they do. And seeing all these people protesting, clogging up streets, and burning down flags because the candidate of their choice didn't win, is only validating their decision to not be on the same side as these people, and to not want to be part of their ideology... which they see as lazy and entitled. 

If the goal here is to win more people to the Democratic side for next time, these protests are extremely counter productive. That's all I'm saying.

They may not love trump, but theyre still racist bigots.  There's just no escaping that after having voted -for- a man who promised to do racist, bigoted things.  They were okay with trading that for whatever they wanted, and guess what, that's pretty damned racist and bigoted.

I didn't want hillary to win either...so I didn't vote for her, and neither did you or your husband. I know you like them...I know they're your freinds...thjat doesn;t change anything about them with regards to their inherent and apparent bigotry or racism. I have alot of racist, bigoted friends too. Good people, otherwise, hell, maybe the best. Hard working, underpaid, underappreciated, peaceful....bigots and racists.

Theyre all about to be disappointed, ofc, because he;s not going to do a damned thing he said he would. Look at his first blurb after the announcement. We all owe Hillary for the great work she's done? What happened to locking her up? Racist....bigoted....suckers.

Could you imagine what would have happened if all of those 'uneducated whites' put on a protest? we'd have another civil war!

Or maybe, the vast majority would simply go back to work and wait 4 more years.. I guess we'll never know

Saying everyone who voted for Trump is a racist bigot is just stupid. My dad voted for Trump. As a Hispanic man, I can tell you he's not racist, and he certainly isn't a bigot. My mom, on the other hand, voted Hillary. 

Neither one of my parents was the least bit happy with the candidate they voted for, but they voted on who they saw as the lesser evil of 2 very very bad choices. Neither one of them is anything other than a decent human being trying to do the right thing when they feel backed into a corner. Calling either of them nasty, accusatory things will only alienate them from the opposite side.

Can someone please explain to an outsider why these people protest? You have a new president elected following a legal constitutional process - it happened, it wasn't rigged, if you don't like the guy you should have made some noise before the election, not after.

Furthermore, the protests happen in areas where most of the people voted for Clinton, so the people who voted for her are the ones getting punished and have their lives disrupted. Why don't you go and protest in the cities and states that voted for Trump?

If racism and bigotry plays a large role in any candidate's or party's narrative, the ones voting for them are at least comfortable with that part of the package. I wouldn't know what else to say about people who heard his comments on Mexicans and muslims, his constant mockery of certain people, such as the disabled journalist he parroted in one of his speeches.

It's abundantly clear what this person represents, what he plans to do to minorities, how he thinks about women. So, yes. I can't help feeling contempt for everyone having heard all of this, witnessed all of this and still voted for that man. At the very least they don't mind and that's the most benign explanation I can come up with.
