She is a writer. Her first book was published last January. She's also written a handful of articles for various places. She's working on several other books.

It is nice, although at that time, I married a teacher. After 12 or 13 years of teaching, she decided to quit, once her book was published.

I could see that, although it has other problems. She's still Christian, which I don't care about, but she does. She silently tolerates my departure from the faith.

It would be interesting to hear her riff on what tolerance, authenticity and obedience mean in the life a Christian. Or maybe something about what sets Christian ideas of community and worship apart from their secular counterparts.

It's more that she feels cheated and betrayed. I was Christian when we married, then I stopped being Christian. She wouldn't have married me if I weren't, now here we are, with kids, and I'm not. She feels trapped into raising the kids as Christians on her own, all while knowing that if the religion is presented to them as optional, they're less likely to care about it. It's pretty much entirely about how she, personally feels slighted.

This goes pretty counter to her liberal beliefs that there is no hell, and when I die, I'm going to go to heaven anyway; I'll just have a bit of egg on my face for having been wrong, and move on with my eternity. So, it's not like she believes I'm getting the bad ending for not being a believer. I'd probably be more accepting of the heaven she believes in than most people who self-identify as Christian would be; she's just upset that I changed my mind after we made commitments.

Understandably.  It speaks well of her that she understands that this is something that could happen without you being a cad.

I suppose you pretty much toe the xtian line where the kids are concerned.  I suppose you owe her that.  When they grow up will be a different story.

My kids have developed a liking to minecraft... but it's now school time and we've come up with the rule that they can't play computer during the week, so they can focus on studying, free from the desire to rush through homework just to go play (which we've seen happen too often - with disastrous results).

So they came up with... making their own minecraft characters on paper!

Complete with weapons, ghosts, zombies, tentacled monsters, ninjas, C3PO, a banker, a headless guy... you name it!

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Most Excellent.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Gotta make one little correction...
Kids (in general) are awesome.

It's too bad our society beats the awesome out of most of them in order to make respectable citizens of them.

I did not realize I had used maths!

Yes, I do use "-" as both a minus sign and a dash after a name.

Sometimes it's hard to differentiate. o_O
