Opportunists like Kony are the reason Africa is a mess. There is no denying that it's horrible. However, I have seen videos of refugees who walk barefoot to a school that is no more than four dirt walls with no ceiling. They are not obligated to go. I wondered why they bother and I came to the conclusion that most of them want things to be different.

It's a curious observation I've made that no matter how much pandering most politicians in any country do, they don't give a shit about children. They've forgotten what it's like to be one. And they're mostly concerned with their own power (Captain Obvious statement in regards to this fucker).

You'll be hard pressed to find anything like this in the news these days, Shell, what with JLo and Steven Tyler taking over American Idol, and Bones doing a Jersey Shore episode. After all, if they plastered these images on TV, people might...I don't know...do something?

I fucking hate this sort of selective popular news casting. I seriously don't fucking care what celebrities are doing, unless they are donating a million dollars to the Shelly Barclay fund. Everyone seems to know what Obama had for breakfast, but have no idea what is happening in other countries.

It's why I don't watch much TV. At least on the internet I can choose to avoid the bullshit.

And the second people start concentrating on real problems in other countries, it means less people are concentrating on eradicating homosexuality, illegals, and democrats.

I don't watch a lot of television myself. I can only take so much redecorating and ghost hunting.

I don't know how many of you have heard of Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army, so I'll give you a little background. Joseph Kony formed the Lord's Resistance Army in the 1980's. His aim is to overthrow the government in Uganda and replace it with his own government-one that would use the Ten Commandments as law. Since the inception of the LRA, Joseph Kony and his men have stolen and enslaved tens of thousands of children in Uganda and the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). Some of the children are kept as sex slaves, others are used as child soldiers. He is one of the most wanted terrorists in the world. Strangely, I have yet to meet a person in "real life" who has heard of him.

I find it disgusting that fluff like "10 ways to save at the supermarket" makes it to the news, but Kony is only known to a select group of curious people, humanitarians and politicians.

Yes, Kony's a poor excuse for a human being. Hitchens used the LRA as one of his many reasons why religion poisons everything. And I dare say few people I know in real life would know who he is. Ok, I know two people right off, but they are work colleagues and fit into the "curious people" category. Friends and family, though, forget about it.

I can't disagree with you there. However, it isn't all jesus. Let's not forget about the Muslims in Sudan (I'm pretty sure Muslims don't carry on about jesus. Correct me if I'm wrong.). Constant enslavement/freedom/enslavement/finding resources/enslavement by your own people/fighting over resources/freedom doesn't hurt either. If there were a god, the only explanation would be that he shat on Africa.

You're right. There really is no distinction between the two. It's funny (not haha funny) that when you look back on history, foreigners were stealing African people for a very long time. After that, they shuffled rule of the continent's countries like trading cards whenever there was a peace treaty. This happened as late as WWII. "Well, I don't know. I'm making a great deal of progress bombing your country." "Oh, come on. If you sign the treaty, I'll give you Somalia."
