RE: File converter.
VLC has a converter built in.

If you don't have VLC, it's the best open source video player available, IMO.
Quote:Step 1: Once your VLC program is installed to the computer system, you can kick start the process of converting your files in earnest.
Step 2: From the menu bar, click on "media" and then follow up that with "convert/save".
Step 3: The next step will be adding videos that you intend to convert and you will have to use the "add" button. Choose to add a single file or multiples.
Step 4: Give the files suitable names and then select a folder where to store.
Step 5: When you have chosen MP4 as the output format, complete the conversion process by clicking on "start".

Is VLC something you can download onto a samsung phone then?

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

oh, trying to convert on your phone... hmm.

Well, VLC will play .avi, so it might get rid of the need for a converter in the first place. They have an app in the Play Store.

Well I can convert on my PC then my phone, but with you saying it was the best player I was thinking that you were implying it could go on a phone, as a player, and I was thinking that would be handy.  I could use it as a converter on my PC then move the file to my phone though if it's a good converter.

It looks to work perfectly with avi files

This is why Minimalist has 12000000 PUPs on his computer.

Back to the topic:

Paul - I assume you've already attempted to use a file converter of some sort?

Go to the google play store and search for a file converter. That's about the best solution I can offer for ya.

I haven't tried any yet.

It's basically just because any kind of video conversion takes a long time, and what I'm imagining is that if it fucks up it'll fuck up right at the end after I've spend a few hours trying to convert one file.

So just looking for advice from anyone who might have used a video converter before.

Google searches are useful but obviously it comes up with everyone advertising their converter, which goes back to me just wanting to know which ones have no hidden charges, pop ups, add ons, viruses and so on.

There's no rush but I'm fucking excited to have a samsung s8, I'm not the type to be excited about a phone but I'm so grateful to be rid of my piece of shit iphone.  Fuck apple.

Anyway in the meantime I have lots of game of thrones on mp4, and netflix installed so far by my ex girlfriends recommendation so there's not really any rush.

No problem. I actually don't have any files needing to be converted, but I at least wanted to toss some options out there Wink
