Its the place where they give up trying to find fact and settle for opinion, a.k.a "faith" instead. Usually its the point when I ask them about the horrible things that happen to innocent human beings on a daily basis. Their answer is always "Its god's will". I translate that as "I don't know and I don't care."
So someone could have their entire family die randomly to freak accidents and that person is supposed to chalk that up to "god's will" and just move on? Common sense would suggest that now is the time you stop going to church and praying to a god that took so much from you. So you lose your career job only months from retirement and are forced to work at a convenience store at age 60 and that is part ot god's plan? And we can't leave out the situation in Japan. What did they do? How come we have things like cancer and babies born with mutations and people like Dr. Phil? For as much support this so-called "god" is getting, that supposed entity is sure not doing a very good job of taking care of its fans.

Honey ...why are you bothering??? Let the infantile have their delusions.

"You can't debate with two year olds" and that is just what it seems like..you are arguing with the mind of a two year old child. Surely you are older than that??

I chalk this problem to bad logic. Many religious people believe that god is responsible for everything and god is good. Therefore, there must be good behind everything that happens. It doesn't matter how horrifying the tragedy, since it has happened, god allowed it to and it must be good. This reasoning seems to keep the religious from wondering why god would allow something to happen.

Whenever I hear this discussion I am reminded of the song 'Judith' by A Perfect Circle. The lead singer, Maynard, says the song is about his mother whose faith was only strengthened after becoming confined to a wheel chair for life.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
