Afghan riots over Quran-burning: 2 days, 20 dead

Speaking of assumptions, I am hoping the religious followers on this board also assume that when I talk bad about religious types, I am talking about their zealots. When I am cutting it to the bone I am talking about their hard core zealots. The ones who want to push their hatred onto others.

Those who have followed my posts have surely noticed where I have said things such as "I have no problem with the "cool" christians. I have a few of them as friends and family."

The same goes with Muslims and other religious types. I have also met some asshole atheists. we all have the ability to become an asshole. Yes, I have been assholish on this site more than once, but I am not perfect. Nobodyis perfect.

We should all agree to disagree and try not to force idealism on each other.

Quote:You're right also, but I think that such acts of evilness being done in the name of Islam has increased only in the last couple of decades, not centuries.

Without a doubt, Rayaan. It gets difficult to draw a line between the religious and the political. Islam is seen as a unifying factor among disparate groups who have long traditions of enmity among each other...Shi'a and Sunni to name the obvious example.

Perhaps we can compromise with the observation that many muslims are being manipulated through religion by leaders who have a political agenda.

( A charge, I might add, which I would also apply to Urban II and his fucking "Crusade.")

Well said Min. I agree. That post was very appropriate for this discussion

Quote:Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions.

-Blaise Pascal

A fact which religious "leaders" fully understand and use whenever they can get away with it.

Which leads to Diderot's observation that:

Quote:Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.
--Denis Diderot

to the OP

listen, majority of these Afghans are in an economic state none of us have experienced

they've been pushed around for the last 4 decades by the soviets, taliban, corrupt governments, and now US

any negative news that comes out of US, will trigger such riots

however if they were living in US they must abide by the rules

America has one of the greatest constitution, its a shame some people are abusing it to offend certain groups.

Poor? They are just lining up aren't they? Thinking

Quote:they've been pushed around for the last 4 decades by the soviets, taliban, corrupt governments, and now US

And before that they were warring with other people still. Did you have a point?

Quote:any negative news that comes out of US, will trigger such riots

Pathetic.

Quote:however if they were living in US they must abide by the rules

They don't have rules against murdering there? Fascinating.

Abusing what about it now?

1. Currently there are no local banks in rural Afghanistan let alone rules and laws. People there are in a state where they have to dig up the graves of their parents so they can sell their bones to afford food! You think these people are going to abide by rules and laws?

2. I was referring to "freedom of speech". Currently, you have right to offend (I say its a shame people are abusing this freedom because it gives a perfect excuse for the government to take it away from you).

The constitution is being tortured to say lots of things it didn't say but recall that in this particular instance these xtian morons in Florida were ignored by the media. It was Hamid Karzai who decided to go public with the event.
You'd have to tell me what his game is. Inciting violence in a country where the government is hard pressed to control the streets of its own capitol? Makes no sense at all.

Otherwise, I have no problem with your observations. Yes, the Afghans have been getting the shit stick for a long time and they are little more than pawns in big-power strategy. They have every right to be pissed.

Hi there,

Like all corrupt government, the Afgani's government is no different. This is just a classic example of a politician instigating trouble to gain votes and keep his family in control of the country. He knows the people are upset with US, therefore he must deliver this kind of news to keep his image popular.

I don't want to get into any more details, but I recommend you study the Karzai family and what kind of power they have.

What votes, though? He just stole....er, excuse me, "won" the election with our connivance. As far as the family business goes I'm sure there is a poppy field somewhere with their name on it.

Our planes habitually kill civilians. Doesn't he think he can get them worked up about that?
