That's not what you described.

Genesis 1: 2 states “ earth was formless and empty, and darkness over the surface”. This is a description of the Earth’s history 4.5-3.9 bya (Hadren Era heavy) to 3.9-3.5 bya (Hadren Era that cooled sufficiently for oceans to form). The atmosphere was opaque due to solar-system debris together with Earth’s atmosphere density would have blocked the Sun’s light from reaching the early Earth’s surface. Genesis 1:1 frame of reference (FOR) is the cosmos; Genesis 1: 2 is where the focus shifts from the cosmos to the early earth. The phrase “Let there be Light” means sunlight finally penetrates the opaque atmosphere that sufficiently cleared to transparent allowing the sunlight to reach the surface of the earth. Been consistently stating there is solar-system sunlight, and there's sunlight reaching the earth's surface.
Atheist Credo: A universe by chance that also just happened to admit the observer by chance.

Researchers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greebelt, Md., report evidence that ready-made DNA parts could have crashed to the surface on objects like meteorites, and then assembled under Earth's early conditions to create the first DNA.

No wonder the republicunts don't want to fund NASA.  Jesus can't handle the competition.

For ages I thought my dad was nuts for saying humans originally came from outer space. However now he is somewhat right, damn.

This is a good example of how a simple and ambiguous story can be expanded on almost without limit in order to try and make it fit our modern understanding. The thing is, we have had Muslim followers come here and do the same with the Quran, taking a vague passage and using it to show how their holy book describes the universe with astonishing accuracy and foreknowledge. I mean, it's kind of cute that you think that you can take a story that says "god made stuff, and it was dark and lumpy and he made more stuff and it was awesome lol" and make it conform to the modern understanding of physics and the development of the universe. And it's cute that they can do the same thing. And it's almost as cute to watch you guys disqualify each others' work as if what any of you are doing is any different. But a real god could have resolved this by having his inspired writers working at something above a third-grade level.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Some basic errors stated here; the story comports with science that's why we know scripture is true. Nice try red herring the 'holy' books into the discussion. Scripture stated millenniums before science proved, yes proof, (Hawking-Penrose theorem) that the universe had a beginning; even 100 years-ago the prevailing notion was the universe was eternal. The first chapter of Genesis gives an accurate summation of the preparation and creation of mankind (6 long but finite periods of time). Everyone believe in God's existence; however some don't like His authority and in their state of rebellion state He doesn't exist. Mankind is being judged in how their spirit responds to God. That's the purpose of the 13 billion years, the material universe (the math, laws of physics, thermodynamics, 4 dimensions all somehow came from a sub-atomic point perfectly unified {remember the sample size is one}), the lower animals and plants, etc.
Atheist Credo: A universe by chance that also just happened to admit the observer by chance.

Good job summarizing your post right at the start.

snowtracks Wrote:the story comports with science that's why we know scripture is true.
No, the story does not 'comport with science.' It's ambiguous enough to allow people like you to come up with some pretty imaginative interpretations, but the way that those interpretations always seem to track with science --instead of the other way around-- shows that it's not your book that has it right.

snowtracks Wrote:Scripture stated millenniums before science proved, yes proof, (Hawking-Penrose theorem) that the universe had a beginning; even 100 years-ago the prevailing notion was the universe was eternal.
Scripture also stated that the sky was a canvas stretched across the flat circle of the world by a supernatural being, centuries before science proved that it was a fairy tale.

And then the second chapter gives a completely different summation of the creation account, with at least a handful of contradictions.

God is the person I see in the mirror every day. So in that sense, god exists. Contrary to your statement, I am comfortable putting my fate in god's hands. At least, in the hands of a god who can actually act and get things done.

Gen 1 is a chronological summary account of the major creation events spanning some 13 billion years.
Gen 2 starts with a ref. to when God shaped the earth and the heavens but from that point forward, it begins to elaborate on the ‘why’ or ‘purpose’ of creation. The perspective changes from Gen 1 - the observer described from a vantage point above the earth’s surface, but below the clouds - whereas; Gen 2 perspective is from a small portion of Earth’s surface (Eden), from the vantage point of the first human. In Gen 2, four rivers are mentioned (Tigris, Euphrates, Gibon, Pishon), The one location where these rivers could have come together is now the Persian Gulf*. Gen 1 is the only summary. Other ref’s give creation details**

> Romans 1-8 Purposes of the creation
> Eccl. 1- 3 Constancy of physical laws
> Psalms 147-148 Testimony of the Creator’s power, wisdom, and care in nature.
> Psalm 104 Elaboration of physical creation events.

Oh, hey snowtracks. What's up?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Not really new news, scientists have known for much longer that all atoms stem from the big bang ultimately.

Even the Cosmos series speculated because of our solar system's cycle around the center of the galaxy in it's 4 billion year history would make it likely that our planet over it's history could as it did come into contact with other bodies carrying those building blocks.
