Oh, you don't have your 'rangering' gig anymore?
That was vicariously satisfying a fantasy occupations for me.

Have you said what line of work you are in? (Wouldn't want to blow your cover if the goons from central control might be out on patrol.)
I work for Big Pharma. Have been a bench scientist for most of my career.

I absolutely love my job. Teaching is wonderful. Sure, it's under-appreciated, and a tad underpaid. But it's a very rewarding job. I wouldn't want to do anything else. Teenagers have a lot of thoughts, and a lot of the time we don't really listen. Teaching gives me the opportunity not only to teach them, but for them to teach me. As cliche as that sounds.

No, I left that job back in August. This one offers medical benefits, the park-staff (not a Ranger) position didn't. Slight bump in pay, benefits, much shorter commute = no-brainer.

Me, I work seasonally and then take most of the year off of work to travel and peruse other interests. Gotta pay the bills. How do you finance travel and other interests if you're not working?
I work seasonally. Like I said. Seasonal work is rad, you make a good chunk of money, can go on unemployment sometimes and can come back to the job if you didn't mind it.

That program was a freaking nightmare. At some point it became a joke for me, and the AF brass and my boss could tell.
I'm so surprised the AF brass were even involved. I'm sure Stimbo and Cthulhu would give you a fair shake though.

For me, I loved teaching for about 15 years. Then I merely enjoyed it for another 5 years. In the final 5 years I began to resent the intrusion of administration, people who can't or won't teach but feel empowered to micro-manage those who do.
Now I am retired and have no desire or curiosity to go back in any capacity. I frequently come across former students or their parents and they remind me I should be glad for having had the opportunity. I always enjoyed knowing I had important work to do each day and looked forward to the first day of each new school year .. until the last few years. Now school is out forever and I have all the time in the world for my other interests.

To bad you weren't working for Sandoz back in the day.
