um...hello.
Hi people, my name is Paul and I'm from England.
I'm non-religious and do not believe that there is any almighty being that has designed or created us as a race.
I'm studying for a degree in computing and mathematical sciences and am rather good at procrastination, recently I have been watching youtube videos instead of reading a rather dry Java programming text book and have seen a lot of 'debunking' videos from all sides of the argument.
Now, being from England, I have absolutely no first hand experience of this kind of conflict between religious believers and those who are not and I really wanted to talk to people that do and to try and get a feeling as to why there is this huge animosity between these groups.

feel free to message me.

RE: um...hello.
Welcome to the forums, Paul. My personal opinion is that part of the animosity stems from religious people (Christians in particular) tend to cry the persecution complex when they are told they can't force their beliefs on those who don't share their same religious views. Many feel they have the right to have their god present in government affairs, laws and schools that are public and are the first ones to raise up against anyone who feels differently. Just look at the US for example. Google Kim Davis if you haven't heard of her and you will see a fine example of a government employee forcing her religious beliefs on the public.

Anyway, welcome again. Smile

Hello and welcome!

Hey there, nice to meet you Smile

I'm also from England and with the same lack of beliefs. Indeed, we're relatively lucky regarding religious busybodies. That's one of the reasons I signed up, to help atheists in other countries when I realized how much persecution was going on in the world.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I suggest you check out Robs site to see why we don't buy the whole "debunking" crap from the theists side. This page particularly should help:
http://robvalue.wix.com/atheism#!logical-fallacies/cwi1

Most of the arguments coming from theists trying to rationalize their religion contain logical fallacies.

Well your site is very user friendly (a bit slow on the loading times), i went through it the first time i joined the forum and it was very helpful.

I'm very glad to hear that! That's exactly what I had in mind, user friendly for someone perhaps unfamiliar with all the language and arguments floating around.

Hmm, I'm not sure why it's slow, I'll see if I can do anything about that.

I've been meaning to add more for ages, it's just a matter of having the energy.
