The welds don't have to be pretty. Zap it a few times.
Then just flap to clean up ready for wood.
Problem is that the side i am welding tends to raise a bit so the whole thing is skewed.

Warping is fairly common with welding.
Just tack the whole thing first, then do another run, etc.
Putting too much heat in the one spot can warp the steel.

Always use the minimum heat to get the job done.

No need to break walnuts with a sledgehammer.

Wow, that's a lot of replies!
Thanks for all the welcomes, I'm glad to hear that there is people with religious beliefs as well as those without that frequent this forum, discussion is boring when you only talk to yourself.

DrFuzzy you should absolutely come over for a couple of weeks and visit the whole of the UK and then pop over to Scandinavia, you'll be surprised and probably pleased by the lack of influence the church has in peoples lives. They speak better English in the Scandinavian countries than in most northern English cities.

With the shelving/ woodworking project you could just brace the lengths of wood with smaller gauge lengths of wood. I made shelves out of an old sofa and along the longest sections (which were 180cm x 25cm x 2cm) I reinforced them with a piece of wood that was 180cm x 2cm x 2cm. That made it as strong as f**k and it lived through daily use and 2 house moves.

Hiya Paul, Darrell here from Texas.

I don't have animosity towards believers unless they try to push their beliefs on me ... and even then it takes me a bit to get worked up.

Put shortly, religion is like a dick -- it's great that you have one, please don't shove it down my throat.
