You don't hear many counteraltos like that, and I love the German tenor.

Oh, yes.  Just finished watching that.  I've gotta make a permanent save of that one.

Two things:  First, I'm glad they let the guy do the trumpet solo on "The Trumpet Shall Sound" because the woman looked like she was red in the face just from the Hallelujah Chorus.  I think the Trumpet Shall Sound would have given her a stroke.

Second:  They could have used a bigger chorus because when the timpanist got into it he overpowered them.

But it was great.  Shows the one thing that fucking churches are good for.  Excellent acoustics!

In regards to the trumpet players, to be fair, those pieces are extremely difficult on the instruments they're playing.
I can't even imagine how it was accomplished with natural trumpets back in the day.
I totally agree with you about church accoustics.

Yeah, they didn't want you to miss one word of what the pervert in the dress was saying.  Especially when it was "here comes the collection basket!"

I think there's something to be said for small ensembles.I have a St.Matthews Passion which is all soloists, and I think it gives the performance a, for lack of a better word, very dynamic edge that one doesn't usually have with big choirs

Pretty sure it's not either of those. These are two of my favourite composers (no.1 being Prokofiev). Sounds just like a scale to me rather than anything in particular.

We already figured out that it's one of the Chopin Études which we had missed!

Sorry just catching up on this thread.

It's grown by about 30 pages since I last looked at it and I'm going backwards from the last page.
