Is there any reliable online tests that are free?

The internet ones are not reliable at all.
I get that impression too.
I tried one with 50 questions that took me ages and came up with a score of 148.
I'm not stupid, but I'm not that not stupid.

I'm 145-150.

Quote:1) How did you fare academically?
Good when I applied myself.
Quote:2) How fast did you learn a new concept?
Fast.
Quote:3) Did you have to study much outside of school?
Through high school almost none at all. In college did need to study.
Quote:4) What was difficult for you to learn and what wasn't?
Pretty much everything was easy.
Quote:5) How did it feel being around people that had it a bit more difficult to learn new concepts, remember things, solve problems etc
A little frustrating when forced to do group projects. Other than that it felt good to be ahead of everyone else.
Quote:6) When you solve a problem in let's say mathematics (you can use another example) what is your approach and thought process when solving it?
This is pretty vague.
Quote:7) How was your experience when learning a new language? Did it come to you easily?
I took two years of latin and didn't learn shit, but that was laziness. There were a couple of people who wanted to learn it. They would pass their tests around to the rest of us. The teacher was an alcoholic and either didn't notice or didn't want the hassle of doing anything about it.

I read somewhere that the short tests like they use online are fairly accurate for scores within one standard deviation of the mean, or something like that.

Generally speaking, I would agree.

BTW, by excluding those other factors - which are significant - you essentially make any statement bout correlation meaningless.

IIRC it's generally a good indicator when it comes to education, lifestyle choices, longevity etc. If let's say two siblings have a very similiar upbringing, life, receive the same education etc but one scored higher on an IQ test it's more likely the one with higher IQ turns out to be successful i.e fares better academically, makes better lifestyle choices, lives longer. But, of course, it's definitely not causation. Although IIRC grit, motivation, self-control is even better.
Well. I would agree that it's a fair predictor of academic success, the rest, meh. "Successfulis" such a subjective term so as to be useful. Within those constraints sure, but I wouldn't agree that's how success is measured.

Dunno, I'm just speaking based on studies I've stumbled upon.

So, which test did you take that gave a range, and resulted in you having a score three standard deviations above the mean?

To say I'm extremely skeptical of this claim is an understatement.

RE: Higher IQ
I've always learned things very easily. I grasp concepts in a wide sense and then I narrow them down, a bit like zooming into a fractal from a wider outside view, and there I can see the internal constructs of ideas with precise and tempered clarity. I pass tests with ease and with very little study beforehand. Mathematics, music, art, and nature all appeal to me, and I appreciate them immensely and equally. My IQ is currently 131, and I have no doubt that this indicates some of the attributes I've detailed about myself. I appreciate being bright, it's a definite advantage in life.

It's odd that people with around 130 IQ learn concepts so quickly, are usually great problem solvers etc, I never knew it was this way. Just imagine how someone with 160+ IQ is, it's just insane, wow. I wonder what literally goes on in their minds, their thoughts, their spatial awarness, their mental images. It's really such a cool subject imo.

IQ is exponential, so I can't even fathom consciousness in the range of 160+

At times I feel like I may go insane at 131  Big Grin
