I don't watch much television, but when I do for some reason I can't stand good looking people on TV. I'm going to have a seizure of hate if I have to see one more sexy young forensic scientist or doctor. Yeah right. It drives me insane. For one I think it reduces the quality of acting by making the acting pool so small that it only covers the tiny percentage of skinny sexy people. I'm watching some random shitty show about people surviving the apocolypse and why have only sexy young people survived? Enough already. It's probably my number one pet peeve about television, and a reason why British television is better. Also really successful shows, say Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones tend to have much more normal looking or at least a variety of different looking people on them. Imagine if Saul Goodman was a sexy young lawyer? That would be your normal stupid show. That seems to be the real formula for success. So why do your average shitball shows just have pretty people on them still?

Because sex sells. Duh.

I wouldn't really say Game of Thrones breaks that mould, and I say that as a lover of the show. It actually uses the "sex" factor quite a bit for cheap views.

The funny thing is that British TV is trying to do the same thing.
They just don't have any good looking people there.

I can see what you mean. It's one of the things I like about Orange is the New Black. To some degree, they do attempt to bring in average people, but of course the good lookin' ones are in there too, because sex sells. It's just human nature.

Well it's not about sex, but more about looks. I don't have a problem with sex on TV, or watching regular looking people (or dwarves) having sex. It's more about people just being unrealistically good looking and how that reduces the quality of acting. Well maybe they are a little too pretty, actually I do think it's stupid how well manicured all the women are on that show. When and how are these wildling women shaving their legs and lady parts? But at least most people on that show look like human beings and not human dolls.

Do regular looking people not have sex lives? Also like I said, those that break the mould are the really popular shows anyway. So I think that idea is an obsolete one anyway.
