Hunt is currently health secretary in the UK. For reasons of his utter boorishness in ramming through longer hours for less pay and continued privatisation of NHS services the nickname's stuck.

Cute kid too. :-)

It's an Italian style pastry with a custard cream center. I forget what it's called.

As promised a couple weeks ago (I finally got 'round to post-processing some photos) here are some photos from my most recent day in the mountains.

First stop, Eldorado State Park:

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2001%20...Canyon.jpg]
The view to the east from inside the canyon.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2002%20...Canyon.jpg]
And, the view to the west.

Eldorado is one of Colorado's smallest state parks, encompassing just Eldorado Canyon and some of the surrounding hill sides. That being said, it's also one of the most beautiful and easily accessible of Colorado's state parks. None of the trails are rated at more than moderate difficulty and the scenery they pass through is a lush haven in a dry climate.

After Eldorado, I drove through Golden Gate state park and got to meet some of the neighbors. Smile
[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2003%20...Canyon.jpg]
Momma and her babies were in no hurry to get out of the way. Nor was I in a hurry for them to leave.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2004%20...Canyon.jpg]
Keeping an eye on the kids.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2005%20...Canyon.jpg]
More play time.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2006%20...Canyon.jpg]
Mom keeping an eye on the intruder (me). Smile

And, deciding that I'm no threat.

After Golden Gate, I made my way up to Mt. Evans.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2009%20...lowers.jpg]

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2010%20...lowers.jpg]
The alpine flowers were in full bloom this trip, something I missed last year.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2011%20...20Lake.jpg]

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2015%20...20Lake.jpg]
Summit Lake

And, while at Summit Lake I got to meet another of the neighbors:
[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2013%20...Marmot.jpg]
The Yellow Bellied Marmot. These little guys are absolutely fearless. Mostly because so many of the visitors insist on feeding them even though it's incredibly bad for the little guys to be eating people food. Especially the kind of crap most people keep as munchies in their cars.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2014%20...Marmot.jpg]
And, apparently I offended by not offering any Cheetos. Smile

The Chicago lakes:
[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2012%20...0Lakes.jpg]
Named for the creek and only visible to people who drive to the summit from the overlook point near summit lake. I full intend to hike in to them later this year.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2016%20...waters.jpg]
More of the alpine flowers, and the headwaters of Bear Creek.

A little further up and I got to meet yet more of the neighbors.

Big Horn Rams, and the mascot for Colorado State University

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2018%20...20Rams.jpg]
Seeing Big Horns is a surprisingly rare treat. There are lots of them in the Rockies. There just aren't enough roads to give people access to easy viewing (good!).

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2019%20...%20Ram.jpg]
Getting as close as I did would have made a bad day incredible.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2020%20...20Rams.jpg]
Getting to see them knocking horns was... Wow!

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2021%20...Summit.jpg]
A view of the Rockies looking west from just below the summit.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2022%20...Summit.jpg]
And a view to the north along the Front Range.

[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2023%20...vatory.jpg]
For our science nerds: Womble Observatory, the third-highest optical/infrared observatory in the world and when it was built it was the highest.

Another view of Summit Lake:
[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2024%20...Summit.jpg]
This time, from the summit. The path along the western bank of the lake (to the right in the photo) is the trail to the Chicago Lakes lookout point.

Sunset from the top of the world, or at least this part of it:
[Image: Mt.%20Evans%20-%20Jul%202016%20-%2025%20...ockies.jpg]
It's hard to believe that all this is less than two hours and 60 miles (about 35 straight line) from downtown Denver. So much of the land here is still relatively untouched by the encroachment of mankind. I really wish the fucking developers would leave it that way!

All-in-all, despite getting rained on (torrential downpour) twice, it was a truly fabulous day.

Infuckingcredible!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
